I found this blog by putting in yahoo search engine the words: UPS Hodgkins, IL? Your blog came up. This is a little bitty town , doesn’t even show on a map, in Illinois, some distance from Springfield. According to the search, there is NO UPS destination site for shipping in that area. I do believe that UPS just uses this weird little spot as an imaginary spot to stick their SCREW-UPS ,….hoping we’ll just accept that our package has truly been “RE-SCHEDULED” for delivery, and not that they sent it to the wrong place somewhere OUT THERE! I am disgusted that they would be so deceitful. I like this company and don’t believe it’s necessary to use subterfuge. I always say that “honesty is the best policy”! Works for ME! Whoever started this blog,…..thanks! I have now VENTED!
This is the place where my package is being reportedly delayed by a train derailment. thoughts to my self(why is my package on a train at all).Any rate this is what came up on the ups web tracking website..
tim
im in the same place as mark, have you looked at all the derailments that they have in this little ass town?
My yracking destination read Hodgkins IN. Since I knew there was no such place I started to check it out and decided to see if they meant IL. and so I ran into all of you fellow wanderers. Now that we are all gathered here in HODGKINS IL. MAYBE WE SHOULD THROW A PARTY !!!!
Renee
Oh this is wonderful. Looks like I’ll be waiting awhile for my overstock.com purchase (officially listed as a weather incident delay). And my amazon.com shipment is being held hostage by some outfit called CEVA shipping. They won’t even answer the phone!
Brian
I looked up the destination when my package arrived and departed from the same place in two days. WOW! I feel like I just discovered a UPS cover-up! This is too weird.
Joy
Stopped by to join the party! We’ve lost one of 6 packages in this little destination! My thought is they just got tired of lifting our boxes – they were full of bowling equipment on the way to the Nationals in Albuquerque! Good luck to everyone – perhaps the packages liked the Route 66 atmosphere?
Gayla
GOOD GRIEF! I was thinking that Hodgkins was probably a suburb to Chicaogo or St Louis given my package came from Kentucky and is on its way to KC. And now I find that it is stuck due to weather -that is pathetic!!
Guess from now on I’ll have to use Fed Ex!
Crayon
Well Well. I live in So IL and was awaiting a package. Tracker said Exception
See description below
ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
So I thought what must have happened up there to cause such a problem? But I have searched and searched for adverse weather conditions somewhere on the route the package would have taken. I can’t find any. Is there where they ’say’ our package is when they just don’t want to drive the trucks? I will complain. I want them to provide proof of adverse weather since I cna’t find any. I will also tell the company that I ordered from that I will NEVER order from them again if they are going to ship UPS.
Cher
Yes, For 36 hours my package UPS and HODGKINS IL held hostage. OK I called No new scan. MY electronic package is being held adverse weather conditions for 36 hours explain that. I question UPS and no new scan, lets talk I’m sure the ups has alternate route they can use, 36 hours my package haS BEEN HELD HOSTAGE……
Same story here. I am freaking out, since I am going for vacation next week and my brand new 600$ camera, as well as 1000$ Dell laptop are stuck in HODGKINS IL for 72 hours already, when they had to be already delivered to AZ. Any ideas what to do?
Andrea
Grrrr…I live in souther WI and there has been NO “ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS” anywhere in the area. It’s been 81 degrees and SUNNY! I guess maybe the UPS drivers in IL consider heat to be “ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS”. Now my package is stuck and I already waited a week for it.
Akira
Apparently there is flooding in Hodgkins, IL. I called this number 7083874200 and they redirected me to this number 6309907839 which has a recording because they are sooooo overwelmed with phone calls due to the flooding.
Julie
There is a Hodgkins, IL – its near Burr Ridge and is a Chicago suburb. My package is in the same boat, and says adverse weather conditions also. Let me tell you, I live in Chicago and the weather has been perfect. My UPS driver said that it most likely means the package was damaged or lost and that they are just buying time unfortunately.
Julie
Oh, and PS – There is NO flooding in that area… fyi
I ordered a guitar effects pedal on ebay, and a guitar gadget off of amazon. Both on different dates mind you. They are both stuck in Hogkins, IL. I live in central IL. Ever since my packages have arrived in Hogkins on the 23rd, it says adverse weather conditions. After reading what Julie has said, I am pretty pissed. You pay hundreds of dollars for merchandise that you’ll never see. What do they do if they lost it? Do they refund your money for the items lost plus shipping? How unreliable.
Dillon
I am in the same boat as everyone above. My xbox 360 was shipped to Texas and on the way back (the day before i should’ve got it) the status on UPS.com says EXCEPTION, TRAIN DERAILMENT in Hodgkins, IL. And i thought “what are the chances of that”. i am so upset is this true or is UPS trying to cover for lost time?
Brad
Well Dillon, apparently are 360’s are having a blast there. I was hoping to get my Xbox 360 back in time for this weekend, since I am going to be gone, and I HAVE TO SIGN FOR IT!!! Grrr, if they try to deliver it when i’m gone and they ship it back to Microsoft, ima gonna be PISSED!!! I only had it for a week before the RROD. >
Just got my packages today. I guess it’s acceptable for them to be one day late, but I dunno.
Doug
My package arrived in Hodgkins on the 24th, then 48 hours later I got the dreaded bad weather exception. Now, what should have taken 3 days will take 6. Arghhh
Chad
I gurss I’m stuck with everyone else. My package left NV on the 20th and has been stuck in Hodgkins since the 25th. Says “advers weather conditions”. This sucks.
Nick
Same thing. I’ve got an Epiphone Dot Guitar stuck there. Was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but has been stranded there since 1 PM yesterday.
Allen
I guess you can add another name to the list of UPS “lost” packages in some poor town of Hodgkins, IL. I ordered a Trek bike 9 days ago and for the last four days I have check and seen ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS. Not only that, but I few days ago I placed on order, different time, different place, different item, but same dreaded outcome, stuck in same bad luck town in IL. I guess I need to start using FedEx.
melissa
This really sucks. First UPS ships my package to the west instead of the east, and now it is stuck in friggin hogkins IL. No one is of any help. My son published his book and his first book signing is tomorrow with NO BOOKS!!!!!!!!!
Nicola
Crap, my package is stuck in Hodgkins since yesterday. It was supposed to be delivered today. I’m moving on Tuesday… so I hope it un-sticks itself quickly.
Smoky
My package should have been delivered 3 days ago. What is going on down there? Flooding?
Rodney
Cripes!
06/26/2008 3:15 P.M. ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS in Hodgkins IL for my package that started travelling EAST from California on June 23 and there were already Adverse Weather Conditions posted above in Hodgkins on and after June 13th, 2008 at 3:29 pm.
You’d think they’d try to avoid routing to their hub in Hodgkins.
Deb
I am expecting two packages, one shipped from the east coast passed thru Hodgkins on the morning of June 26th, arrived and departed. Second package shipped from the west coast arrived in Hodgkins on June 27th in the afternoon and I got the “adverse weather conditions” exception! I am located in the Midwest and I don’t think the weather became more “adverse” in the last 24 hours! It will be interesting to see how much the “adverse weather” delays my package!
Rodney
No mention on the news about bad weather other than rain in Chicago. I will not accept failure to reimburse shipping charges without proof of a severe storm in the area.
Reco
I was expecting 3 packages today but sadly only 2 arrives. 3 package was my xbox 360, I check to see if they had change the day of the delivery but said Your package has experienced an exception(ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS ). I hope my Xbox 360 arrives tomorrow.
disgruntled
Yep, same here, package was supposed to be delivered 6/24/08, the tracking shows that it left Hodgkins, IL, TWICE!!! but never reached the next shipping point. Just got off the phone with UPS and they couldn’t tell me anything more than it was being affected by the weather……If this was such a major problem than why don’t there own employees know anything about it? And why aren’t there major reports on the news about all this bad weather???? Customer service was absolutely worthless, wouldn’t help at all, just told me to keep an eye on it. Worthless I tell you. I’m glad my package was insured, that’s for sure.
sylvie
hi, my item also hodgkins, from california, but according to ups , that its held up in california till its safe to drop in hodjkins., i dont know.
sylvie
now, i know ups is lying, looked on the map, checked weather, hodgkins is fine, they 20 minutes from the house.
Sandra
Add another one to the list. I’ve been waiting for my package thats stuck in Hodkins since the 25th. I live in Chicago so I’m probably going to end up picking up the package but I don’t have a car or someone to take me and the package is pretty big. :(
sylvie
sandra, dont go to pick up, unless you know its there, i think adverse weather means lost or delayed package.
Wow. I thought we were also in this. I think this is linked to the Chicago phenomenon. You know all planes get delayed there because of weather. With Hodgkins close by, whoknows. But, it seems like the Airlines and UPS would find an alternate hub.
Add me to the list. Have a cornet coming from Kansas. Left on 6/24 was to be here (Rochester, NY) on 6/27. It has been stuck in Hodgkins since 6/25. It is now 6/28.
Went to Dan’s Forbe’s link but it is dated 6/13. I don’t think that is affecting this week’s shipments because is states they expect to back in action by the first of the week (6/16).
All very mysterious!
Wendy
Jake
Wow. I knew I had a reason to be mad at UPS. I’ve been waiting for a package to leave there since the 24th. It should have arrived on the 25. Still not here (as of the 28)
Cynthia
My package(s), like Jake’s, has been held up in Hodgkins since June 24. It should have arrived here on June 25, 2008; it is now June 28.
Cynthia
Interesting that Mark says that UPS says that his package is reportedly being delayed because of a train derailment. UPS says that my package(s) are being delayed because of adverse weather conditions in Hodgkins.
cheeeeeese
Add another to the list. Ordered a package weighing in at about 16 lbs. and it’s been supposively been stuck in Hodgkins, Ill since the 25th. It’s now the 29th. There hasn’t been any updates so far so we can only hope things sort themselves out. and I also hope it isn’t ‘lost’ or I’m out a couple hundo! poop!
same boat
package is listed as adverse weather and stuck in hodgkins,
maybe they do have a problem or there is a glut in the conveyer line,
lets hope that monday brings better news??
Jadie
Same here. Package has been stuck there since June 24. The store then send a back-ordered item on June 26 and is stuck there also. If they do have a flood problem to begin with, why in the world would they send it through Hogkins again 2 days later.
Wendy
I have good news to report! My package tracking status changed to:
HODGKINS,
IL, US 06/29/2008 12:38 P.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
from:
HODGKINS,
IL, US 06/25/2008 10:00 P.M. ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
Cynthia
Today my tracking status also changed from adverse weather conditions. The new stated reason for the delay is “Incorrect routing at UPS facility. The package was missorted at the hub. It has been rerouted to the correct destination site (resolution).” Translation: the delivery date has again been postponed, and the package(s) are still undelivered.
Cynthia
“Cheeeeeese” says that he/she hasn’t had any updates. It’s actually quite easy to go to the UPS website and fill out the fields to be sent daily updates on your package(s)’ location, expectation of delivery, and reasons for delay.
Smoky
still haven’t received my package and it’s five days late. quite odd.
bobbiereyn
Interesting that Wendy got an arrival scan on the 30th, today I got “adverse weather conditions.” I agree, if UPS knows there is a problem with this hub, the should route around it. I also think it’s rather odd that the package took 4 days to get from CA to IL. I was ready to accept the “adverse weather conditions” until I googled Hopkins, IL, to find out what the weather was like and stumbled across this site.
jo
My package is lost here as well! Just got off the phone with UPS and apparently there is terrible flooding in HODGKINS, IL! My package has been stuck there for 4 days!
Wayne
Add my name to the list package was to be deliverd on the 27th stuck in Hodgkins, Il due to weather but when I check the weather report I do not see anything foe Hodgkins.
Arg!
This is a joke I was just told sometime in my life time it would arrive that its stuck in a trailer in the flood. UPS is the WORST
Same thing. I paid for 2-3 day shipping and I’m on the 7th day and Hodgkins, Il is sayind adverse weather conditions. I’ve tried contacting UPS about this and I was hung up on once and the second time they said they didn’t have an answer for me and that I’d just have to be patient. I contacted my local news about this and sent them this weblink.

Quick tidbit-
The Chicago Area Consolidation Hub (CACH) is a package sorting hub for United Parcel Service. Located approximately 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Chicago, the facility is so large it is in several municipalities, primarily Willow Springs, Illinois but also Hodgkins. It serves as a central sorting facility for packages traversing the country. Construction of the CACH facility began in November of 1991 at the site previously occupied by the GM Truck and Bus manufacturing plant. The facility has an area of 2,130,000 ft², and has a perimeter of 3.1 miles and employs over 8,000 people. Packages are only handled during loading and unloading – all sorting takes place through a complex system of conveyor belts and push paddles, utilizing high-speed cameras to read the destination from a smart label to sort a package to its outgoing trailer. While the facility does not service package cars the facility sorts approximately 1.6 million packages per day. UPS’s web tracking system used to list the CACH as “CACH, IL.” Since there is no city named Cach, this confused customers [citation needed], so UPS now lists the hub as “HODGKINS, IL”.
-Often a weather delay scan is not entered until the feeder is in-bounded to a full operational (non-weather effected) facility. Reason being UPS is then able to provide a rescheduled delivery date because the package has reached non-effected hub and should resume normal movement without further delay. Also, depending on the extent of the weather delay, the last event UPS wants is a bottle-neck at a facility that sorts a million+ packages a day. I know this doesn’t excuse UPS for the delays, but maybe it will better help the understanding of the scanning process.
I once again contacted UPS in regards to my package being in the same damn place for more than a week. Still no answers. UPS is a crappy company with crappy customer service. Fed-Ex and USPS are the only ways to go for now on.
Jeff
I just got off the phone with a customer service rep at UPS. My package is still underwater in Hodgkins since 6/30. She has stated she’s starting to see more and more packages getting through, but it will take some time. Also she stated that they will not expedite any package deliveries based on their delay.
Fun.
Annoyed
All…I know my name is annoyed…but I am mostly annoyed with all of you!! I have a package that has not been delivered yet and is from 6/24.
I don’t know if all of you have been stuck under a rock but as Dan said the trains carrying our packages travel across the country which means more than likely are not stuck in IL but somewhere west by the flooding.
Wendy, you are correct Dan’s link is from 6/16 but after the flooding stopped the tracks have to be clear for the trains to pass. Also, everyday in the media since then they have talked about a new levee braking somewhere in the country. Until these natural acts of GOD stop occuring I don’t believe any of you have any right to complain about UPS’s service. Unless you would like to drive cross country through flood waters higher that some houses and endanger your lives I would hope that you could be more understanding.
I too am upset about my package not arriving yet but, come-on be a little understanding!!
Hey annoyed, you are not very smart are you? If what you say were true, why would UPS continue to send packages there and not re-route them so that they don’t get delayed and held up? I don’t know about you but if I owned UPS I would have enough sense to stop sending packages on a “train” that can’t move and find another way.
Also, why did UPS charge me for 2-3 day delivery when they knew they couldn’t meet that deadline? I paid for 2-3 days and it’s been more than 2 weeks. Should they have charged me for 2-3 day delivery? NO. So there is NO understanding coming from me.
Annoyed
Danny,
Thank you for proving to everyone on the world wide web that you are not intelligent enough to have a conversation without insulting someone elses opinion. You are very correct about not sending packages by train in that direction in they knew there was flooding but as Wendy pointed out the previous flooding was cleared up by 6/16 which is when UPS began sending packages this route again. Once the flooding got worse I was told they sent the packages down different tracks to get around it, BUT this takes extra time. It would be like you going from New York to Flordia but traveling to Wisconsin first. It takes time when you have to detour trains for the entire US. I agree with you that you sholuld have not been charged for 2-3 day if they knew it would not arrive in time…but I don’t believe UPS knew the flooding was going to get worse.
Annoyed, you are telling me that after an entire month of dealing with this that UPS still can’t avoid it? Give me a break. Your argument is tired and is NO excuse for what is going on. We, the paying customer, are being lied to about what is going on from UPS. LYING, is that acceptable to you?
steffany
OMG….I can’t believe I just found this blog! My package has been “stuck” in Hodgkins, IL for ohhhh I’d say over a week now. They kept telling me that there were delays due to the flooding going on but now I don’t know what to believe?? Should I just contact the shipper now and ask for my refrund? UPS had launched an investigation, but I don’t know what that will accomplish?
Steffany, if you ask the bozo person posting under “Annoyed” they will tell you that you are just plain rude for being upset about your packaged not being received. They will also tell you that you have no right to be mad about it and you can’t blame anyone for you not receiving your goods.
Johnny
I have some personal good news to share. I had a small package that had a
Departure Scan Departed Redmond, WA at 3:06 AM 6/30/2008
Adverse Weather Conditions Hodgkins, IL at 5:00 PM 6/30/2008
Arrival Scan Horsham, PA at 5:02 PM 7/2/2008
Hope this is an indication that the log jam may be breaking up for your stuff as well. Good luck and good wishes.
Johnny
Sorry, there was a typo. The Redmond departure should read 6/26/2008
twitch
i was in the same boat as everyone else here.
but i recieved my package today. . .here’s hoping everyone else recieves thier packages soon.
Just got an update that my package is out for delivery!! 2-3 days turned out to be 2 1/2 weeks. Atleast I’ll be receiving it today because I’m heading out of town this evening for the holidays. Good Luck to all and have a good weekend.
GMoney
I’m in the same boat as everyone here…been waiting for my package since it was shipped on the 28th of last week. Now it’s stuck in Hodgkin’s due to adverse weather conditions. I was wondering, for those of you who finally received your packages, what was the average time (in days) it tool to receive them?
welcome to the land of the lost. my package was scheduled for delivery 7/2. tracked it when it failed to show. last scan was commerce city co 7/2 (where it normally routes prior to delivery), then suddenly showed hodkins il – delayed for adverse weather conditions. ups customer service told me the package was indeed in hodgkins (not colorado) due to poor weather but couldn’t give any further details. package arrived this morning 7/3 to my place in wyoming. HODGKINS IS UPS CODE FOR “WE DON’T KNOW WHERE THE F**K YOUR PACKAGE IS BECAUSE WE LOST IT AND NEED TIME TO TRY TO FIND IT WITHOUT ADMITTING WE LOST IT.”
hush
WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO TYPE?
Adam
Sent a package to Southern California from Northern California. SOMEHOW it found it’s way to HODGKINS, IL!!!!! WTF? Never using UPS ground again.
It’s been 9 days so far.
Val
I ordered a digital camera from BestBuy.com and was told to wait 3-5 days for it to arrive at my home in Las Vegas, NV. I’ve been tracking my package online; it started in MAUMEE, OH on July 8th then moved to HODGKINS,IN on July 9th then moved to HODGKINS, IL the same date and last I heard it arrived and departed COMMERCE CITY,CO between 1:39 AM and 5:16 AM on July 11th. Its taking entirely too long. The expected arrival date is July 14th when I PAID for it to be here by July 11th. I researched and it takes 25 hours to drive from IL to NV, 14 hours from IL to CO, and 10 hours from CO to NV. I could of personally picked up the stupid thing on OH and gotten it here faster than UPS! Some one is going to hear it if its not in tomorrow!
Mariano
Guys, I’m now in the same situation. Could you please tell me if your packages finally showed up? My heart is about to stop…
Thanks!
BRANDON
my new lap top is stuck the damnit
pete
Iv lost 1 package in hodgkins, and another showed up in Hodgkin, left, then went back to Hodgkin and was a day late getting delivered.
Jillybean
Argh! I used the free shipping promotion at Lands End and now my stupid package is stuck in Hodgkins, IL. Every other time I have used the standard shipping and PAID for it, it arrives like clockwork flying out of Rocklin, IL and into Ontario, CA. Now just because I used the free shipping promotion, its stuck on a godforsaken train in corn country. I order quite a lot and quite frequently from Lands End and it’ has always arrived at my doorstep within a week. This time the package all of a sudden showed up in Hodgkins, IL on the UPS tracker and havent seen any other activity for three days now. So I – according to Lands End and UPS I should be standing in front of the mirror admiring how great my new pants look on my ass. Instead I am blogging about some hideous blackhole town called Hodgkins, IL!
eric
Adding my $0.02. Ordered a new laptop HD from a company in CA. It leaves Cerritos, CA… goes to Hodgkins, IL, where it encounters “Adverse weather conditions” on 9/16.
I check today, and it is also experiencing adverse weather conditions in Vernon, CA now… at the same exact time. You’ve got to be kidding me, especially since the weather reports for all those areas are sunny and clear. RAWR
I’ve called once of their main shipping hubs and requested more detailed information on a package of mine (extremely urgent package) and was told that a rail track was probably washed out. I was also told that my package was being rerouted directly to its destination and all packages should be delived by the end of the week.
Mufasa
Oh and this should help clear some things up: (from a comment above)

I’m having trouble figuring out why my package, which originated in California, needs to go to Illinois on its way to Vancouver, BC, which is also on the West Coast!!
PeterK
Mine is a 3-day select package that shows departing Hodgkins, IL 4 days ago in transit to San Marcos, TX. It shoudl have been delivered yesterday, has a rescheduled delivery of today, but has not been scanned in 4 days. Frustrating adn UPS was no help.
Bratin in Clovis CA
OMG I have a time sensitive order. Arrival in Hodgkins, IL 10-6-2008 at 10:53pm. Departure on 10-7 at 7:12am. was going to have it today. Tracking shows a train derailment.WTF what train derailment. I dont see anything about a train derailment!!
PetDoc11
Tracking my package yesterday (it’s delivery date) showed an “exception”. It said there was a train derailment in San Ramon, Ca. The same thing happened with a package I was expecting 2 weeks ago. How can there be so many train derailments that the NTSB and/or news are unaware of? BTW, this morning, UPS shows my package as “in transit – on time” but no expected delivery date.
Andy
My package is in hodgkins right now. I have a feeling that only people who have problems ever find this site, so it just looks bad. This place handles lots of packages and sometimes shit happens. I’ll keep you guys updated.
Andy
It’s due tomorrow I should mention… It was 2nd day.
Andy
Package has left hodgkins, and is in Dubuque (where I live) now… Should be here within the next few hours. My tracking number is right here if you wish to look.
1Z58F6750313608364
I think this confirms my theory. Normally, only people who have problems with a package stuck at Hodgkins would find this site, because otherwise it won’t stay there very long.
Also, about the departing and arriving scans happening back to back in Hodgkins, I suspect that it is moving to different parts of their facility. According to the internets the place is 1.5 million square feet, and they probably need some way to keep track of what is going where within that huge place.’
One last thing. I think a lot of you don’t understand the logistics of transporting 1,000,000 packages a day. It IS often more efficient to send things away from, or even the opposite direction of, it’s final destination. They don’t have trucks going everywhere all the time. Sometimes it probably comes down to either sending it further from it’s destination so it can stay moving, or letting it sit for a day or two till you’re ready to fill a truck up and send it straight to where you would think it should go. They’ve got computers than plan this stuff out. It is all as efficient as it possibly could be with their current setup, I’m sure.
UPS has never given me a problem, not once, I think you guys need to give them some credit for everything they DON’T screw up because when you do so much… Accidents happen.

Item received.

Hodgkins, IL sure doesn’t have good luck, does it? Adverse weather conditions every other day and now another train derailment. Hoping that Halloween party equipment comes in time for Halloween….
Rob
I hear that, Have a package coming to Rochester, NY and current status? Freakin’ train derailment. Seeing all the people posting here make me think that something would have been done by now.
Geckokeeper
My bike left San Ramon, CA at 10pm on the 21st.
Now a train tips over in Illinois? Maybe derailment means the package fell off the conveyor belt at their huge sorting center.
I live in the Atlanta area home to UPS headquarters.
I will send a link of this blog to the management here so they can see telling the truth would be in their best interest.
Overall they have served me well through the years.
Andy
Management will laugh at all of you.
HodkinsWillEatYourPackagesAndYourChildren
Add one to the tally. I patiently await an exhaust manifold for my 240sx, and the turbocharged, tire shredding bliss to follow. As it happens, an intoxicated train engineer mistakenly switched onto an out of service track. The resulting derailment and subsequent collision with a bus, killed 16 children and one adult. 1200 gallons of toxic chemicals spilled into the Illinois river, devastating the local ecology and killing several endangered birds. I feel terrible about the children and all, but really I just want my package. It too, lies in the bottom of the Illinois river, near Hodgkins, IL.
My previous experience with UPS tells me that roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of their shipments to me end up rescheduled and take at least one more day than advertised. Color me unimpressed.
Turns out, the engineer didn’t have a drop of liquor. That train never jumped track and no children perished. The report of 1200 gallons of toxic sludge was off by… 1200 gallons. But the following eternally will remain true…
UPS WILL EAT YOUR CHILDREN !!! !!! !!!
Seriously. FedEx for the win. No birds were harmed in the making of this story- but my bliss will be damaged forever.
Kate
I had a package that was supposed to be delivered today. Checked UPS yesterday–train derailment, Hodgkins, IL October 25, 12:00 am. I live about 10 minutes from Hodgkins and there was no local news about a train derailment. Called the shipper–they had not been notified either. My package was “soft goods” so if the box stayed intact, it may be all right. What worried me is no update since 4:25 am in Hodgkins–not a good sign. And this is why I use FedEx when I have to send my son important packages to his college. USPS or UPS for reliability–no way!
Casey Tabor
My package arrived there at 7:45 pm last night which would be the 27th! I hope that it gets out of there fast because it needs to be here before Halloween!!! It is our daughter’s new car seat. We are taking a trip this weekend and need it for the trip because she is very uncomfortable in her old one and it will be a verrryyy loonnngg trip without it!

I have a package that arrived in Hodgkins, IL on 10/27/2008 8:28 P.M. E.T. it now 10/30/2008 2:15 P.M. E.T. with no exceptions listed. So it is pushing 72 hours with out moving. That bothers me more than the “train derailments” many of you are seeing.
There are dozens (probably hundreds) of train derailments around the country every day. Most are just little ones where one wheel or axle comes of the track in a rail yard at very low speeds (there are many reasons that I’m just not going to get in to) but even a small derailment will take a couple of hours to fix and will cause a package to miss its train. These small derailments do not make the news and are not reportable to the Federal Rail Road Administration. Even if several cars come off the rail on the main line it usually only make the local paper, maybe the nightly news. Unless someone dies or a hazardous material is released, even then you’d be surprised how many you don’t hear about. The nightly news doesn’t pick them up because there is rarely video.
A medium or large derailment will take a day or two to get trains running again. Weather also effects train more than you might think so bad weather in the mountains will have a ripple effect all over the country. And since corporations lie to each other as much as (or more) than employees lie to their supervisors, UPS doesn’t see a reason to reroute their packages since they are told trouble will be cleared “very soon”.
Since trains can transport so many more tons for so much less than trucks, even though they are slower on the whole, the least expensive shipping options will almost certainly be done by rail. So UPS Ground could be called UPS Rail. By the way UPS trains are the highest priority trains on the rails except for Passenger trains.
Even though I know all of this and I can look at where the trains are at any given moment, I’m still pissed that my package is late!

Jillybean, it’s funny you should mention a UPS hub as a “black hole”. I’m having the same problem with the hub in Ontario, California. From what I’ve read, quite a few people have problems with packages that go through there.
In my case, it’s $250+ worth of high-end computer parts for a new machine I’m building.
Brian
You people are on crack! There is NO UPS “X-File” cover-up here……

My package has been sitting at the Hodkins location for almost seven days. I told the shipper use USPS or no more business with me. UPS SUCKS!

Some of my kids x’mas presents are sitting at Hodgkins, IL since December 15th. Every time I call, UPS has a different story, like call the shipper and have them put a trace, or have the shipper re-send items and then claim it lost with us, or there is a weather delay in the area, and it goes on and on. Customer Service does not even make an attempt to contact this black hole called Hodgkins facility to find my package. They apologize numerous times and even say Merry Christmas when you are about to hang-up.
United States Postal Service has never failed me this miserably… UPS definetely stinks.
My package from Amazon.com was supposedly shipped on December 17th, but it was first scanned by UPS in Hodgkins, Ill on December 22nd evening (“Origin” scan), and UPS is saying the expected delivery is well after Christmas (29th). Looks to me like the package may have gotten stuck in Hodgkins like several others posted on this site. Apparently, the UPS “pipe” is so restricted to require 12 days to deliver a 6 pound domestic package, perhaps we as customers should use another pipe.
I googled “Hodgkins IL, UPS” and here I end up with the rest of you.
Santa’s presents stuck in Hodgkins for me as well. Last week I got an order from Syracuse, NY and the Hodgkins, IL process ARRIVAL SCAN and DEPARTURE SCAN were within an hour of each other and it was on it’s merry little way to Minneapolis and then up to Central MN- as promised.
Now, a much sadder and different tale :(
So, my already delayed box from Ontario, is saying Dec. 29th even though it was suppose to arrive at least by yesterday. It hit Detroit as an import scan 3x, DEPARTURE, IN and OUT of Wyoming, MI and ended up in Hodgkins all less than 12 hours!! Now, it sits for 12 hours still under ARRIVAL SCAN! My hopes are dashed now of a Christmas Eve delivery.
Well, I’m thinking up the stories as we speak, Santa surly will have had some great story for the mix up. Maybe we really can blame this on all the snow across the region- 4 more inches today, yeah!
“Even though I know all of this and I can look at where the trains are at any given moment, I’m still pissed that my package is late!”
Thanks for that RailRoad Employee , it made me chuckle 8~)
I know a railroad guy who would concur with what you said; we don’t hear about many or most of the derailments, just like you said.
Good luck all and here’s to Hodkins IL, ya-hoo, Ugh, ugh, ugh! Grrrrr :(
Well, I guess now I’m a success story of UPS Hodgkins,IL – a Christmas Miracle if you will!
Even though it was rough weather across IL, WI all the way up I-94, UPS got my package out of the Black Hole that is Hodgkins, IL even bypassed a Minneapolis scan right to Central MN and at my door this afternoon 1:31pm, Christmas Eve 2008. So, Merry Christmas after all.
Linda
Guess I will be the first in the new year to report yet another Hodgkins mystery…my package is reported as an “exception” right now which “may result in a delay”. It was to have arrived on the 6th of January. We should get John Stossel to investigate this place! :)
Linda
Update: Package is in transit again and still due to arrive on the 6th. Fingers crossed!
Jesse
here i am.. waiting my package… GUESS WHAT… ITS IN HODGKINS, IL…. it arrived there 2 or 3 days before christmas… just checked again and its still there… um… BLACK HOLE OF DEATH.. i guess i’ll just keep waiting.

Hi. I just googled and found this page. Just waiting on a bag I ordered. It’s in Hodgkins right now :-) Bye.
Dan (Philly)
I had about 30 packaged sent to me during this holiday! All we’re ordered by the 12 of December. The only package that was delivered late was from the Great U S Post Office .UPS delivered all of the other packages no problems (1 package was delivered by a ups driver at 6pm on the 24th)you can’t get better than that, I’m sure he wanted to get home to his family on Christmas Eve
dang, mystery adverse weather condition @ HODGKINS, IL!!!! i had 1 package supposely delivered 1-28,,still says DEPARTURE from HODGKINS!!! now 2 days later, nothing. I paid for 2nd day air!!! called several times, employees didn’t know how to response. only can say “i apologized for the inconvenience blah blah….” what the heck is this HODGKINS place? a hell hole? UPS needs to route to another hub or something. this is ticking me off. hopefully the status will change soon. because i need my package SOON!!!!!!
J.R.
Kal, where did you read about adverse weather in hodgkins, IL? I have a package thats been sitting in Hodgkins for three days now, its scheduled delivery is the 3rd of February, but it still says “on time”. Thanks
B H
Hey I got lucky, my package was only there 2 1/2 days. It finally shows a departure scan today. WOO HOO!!!!!
RS
OK…my package was “Rescheduled” as soon as it left the place of origin. Spent only a few hours in Hodgkins..but how the heck is it going to leave Hodgkins on 2/3 and reach me in Virginia on 2/5. Not going to happen! It seems that the package goes thru 2 states and checks in…that would put it in WVA at best on 2/5….geeze..and they swear..oh yeah…2/5 the rescheduled date…guess they will be having to reschedule the reschedule date. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Story of My Life
TELL ME ABOUT IT. My package said “rescheduled” immediately and was all of a sudden in Hodgkins, IL where it sat for over 3 days. Then it left Hodgkins, IL and arrived in Hodgkins, IN less than an hour later. REALLY?!?!? Hodgkins INDIANA?!?!?! What happened to Hodgkins ILLINOIS?!?!? But apparently it just departed Hodgkins Indiana a few hours ago… so we’ll see.
all of these various Hodgkins had me very suspicious

Ok so here I am in south texas waiting on a part for my atv. From a guy in PA and like some many other people my shipment is stuck in Hidgkens IN. This is all bull $hiT! I’ll never ship any thing with ups and it’s a wounder that every one is switching to DHL!
Misa
Found this blog via google..my package has been stuck there 4 days. Delivery date is supposed to be tomorrow. I really hope it show up eventually. :(
as an first time ebay seller im waiting on a feedback or delivery confirmation to collect payment ups originally said departure to maumee IN then to detroit from phoenix now it is in hodgkins IN i cant find hogkins IN supposedly delivery in 1 or 2 days from this post
TMP
Delivery date, was supposed to be 3/25 in Seattle, from Kentucky, but like all of you, it has been in Hodgkins since 3/20…what the heck UPS. They did the same thing in December and I just figured due to the holidays, but dang there is no excuse for this…UPS owes a lot of money to customers, they are lacking customer service, and a simple apology instead of lies would be nice.
Devin
My package has been sitting in Hodgkin for 2 days. WTF?!?!? All the other places it was only there for 3-6 hours.
Tylon
I recently bought an iphone from ebay from macon georgia to peoria,il and everything has been running smoothly but it is currently sitting in Hodgkins, Il but is scheduled for delivery tomorrow(4/15/09)….we’ll see
Jimbo
Man, I ordered some speaker parts from parts-express.com, and now the parts are stuck in hodgkins. WHY ARE THEY SENDING STUFF BY TRAIN?? This is the 21st century isn’t it? Damn you UPS.
Kelmo
My shipment, originally scheduled to arrive today, is apparently not due to exception: adverse weather conditions. However, tracking indicates that the package LEFT Hodgkins, IL on 4/14 (there is a departure scan). So I know it’s not stuck there, I also know there has not been adverse weather in Seattle (Final destination). After reading all the replies to this thread, I am starting to believe that we can’t take what UPS says as truth, and I will do everything I can not to use them in the future.
Monika UW
WOW! Same here, one package arrived this morning, 2 other packages of toner from GovConnection are missing due to ADVERSE WEATHER. Do they mean the SUN that has been out intermittently the last two days in Seattle? .

I ordered new PC parts from tigerdirect.com on sunday, they shipped out monday with the origin scan being hodgkins, il. I guess that makes sense seeing that tigerdirect is located in IL anyways. There was then a departure today at 5am with no change yet. It still says on time and everything, with a delivery date of the 24th.
I’ll report back if anything changes.
HeartAttack
Ok, update. Today is the 23rd and my packages were scanned in San Pablo, CA and will definitely be here tomorrow. I guess I was just making myself paranoid by reading all of this :p Hopefully there won’t be any train derailments in San Pablo. If there are…well then…I might just have to travel and look for the damned packages myself!
UPSER
Evidently you people never use fed-ex their the worst. When your package shows an adverse weathe scan it was probably not loaded on the truck. UPS uses these scans so that package doesn’t hit the supervisor with a bad report at the end of the day. The people scan them with certain exception codes. Oh and for the train derailment thing. The CACH hub is right next door to one of the largest train yards in the world and they load up trailers on the train cars to move lots of packages more efficiently. You try to sort through a hundred thousand or more packages a day and see if you leave any laying around.
UPSER
Oh I was wrong try sorting through a million packages a day. Over half go on train cars.
Misty
Well, I have a package in Hodgkins INDIANA which doesn’t even exist. I have been trying to ge tthis package for over a week now. First time wasn’t UPS’s fault, I am supposed to receive them tomorrow but now I am really worried after reading this. I will let you all know if my package gets sucked into the black hole or if I succesfully receive it. I am trying to stay positive but with the trouble I’ve been having. I am betting on the black hole in IL.
Hmm… my package has been in “Hodgkins, Indiana” since yesterday morning. After reading these comments, I’m a little stymied. Who knew idle curiosity and a Google search for an obscure town would reveal such bizarre circumstances. As far as I know, my package hasn’t been delayed by a flood or a train derailment, but I’ll anticipate worst and hope for the best. :)
library
Seems to me that if there happens to be a train derailment it defaults to Hodgkins,IL even though it may have happened in between the departure site and Hodgkins. I found this update on the UPS tracking site today.
Date: 05/28/2009 13:00 Location: HODGKINS, IL Description: TRAIN DERAILMENT
My order originated in MA. We’ll see how long things take.
JoAnn Rollinger
I have two packages (identical items) that I am tracking. One is going to a city 70 miles north of me as a gift. The tracking on it also mentions the “Train Derailment” … so I thought I’d google Hodgkins IL and Train Derailment. Oh, my other package is in the same place, but hasn’t been listed as affected by the “Train Derailment” … what an interesting default setting for UPS!!!
Jessie Finch
I am tracking a package that originated in MA on the UPS tracking site. This morning I saw a “train derailment” at 1:00 pm on May 28 in Hodgkins, IL. Then there is an arrival scan in Hodgkins at 5:59 pm also in Hodgkins. So I also Googled “Hodgkins IL train derailment” and found all these interesting websites and postings. Curiouser and curiouser!! I ordered exactly a week ago and wonder just when the package will leave the black hole of Hodgkins and arrive in MN.
Tea'd Off
This is just incredible! Hello Everyone screwed in Hodgkins! I’ve apparently just joined your ever-swelling ranks. I ordered a package of oolong tea from California to Michigan and got this tracking report:
HODGKINS,
IN, US 06/02/2009 8:51 A.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
06/02/2009 2:46 A.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
HODGKINS,

HODGKINS,
IL, US 06/01/2009 1:18 A.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
So it took almost 25 HOURS to get through Hodgkins, ILLINOIS, and now it’s also had to go through Hodgkins, INDIANA! When I saw this I thought: “This must be some small-town version of Minneapolis-St. Paul or something.” So I investigated further and found the one in Illinois, but the one in Indiana is apparently INVISIBLE to all but UPS drivers and trains! Whoa! At least it has allegedly left moonbase Illinois, so we’ll see. I figure if it can make it past Hodgkins, ONTARIO, I still might have a chance to receive it in Michigan this year. Far out!
steve
Hello all curious Hodgkins people. I would like to comment on a previous post from UPSER. He/she is going to tell us that packages get left behind and it’s not there fault, there are just to many. He/she also tells us that when packages get left behind he/she will scan them and mark as weather related so his supervisor doesn’t get a bad report. What a bunch of $hit. That is why when you people call in wondering what is going on nobody has a clue! Everyone at UPS thinks it’s because of the weather. Chances are the people your talking too could be in India, what the hell do they know about Hodgkins? Now if UPSER would scan the packages as lost or forgotten he might get in trouble. I’m sure UPS would take responsibility or I hope they would. If this person wasn’t lying from the beginning it would make our lives easier.
I’m sure if this person goes out for dinner and his order is screwed up are they going to complain, will they want their money back? Maybe the restaurant manger could tell them that there are thousands of food orders placed every day and not all of them can be perfect. Would that be acceptable?
In closing, this person should be fired. if I was to lie to my boss I would be in trouble. If you loose my package own up to it I’m not going to be as upset, it happens I understand. Take care of your customers. Maybe offer me my money back on shipping for my inconvenience. Never bite the hand that feeds and always treat others how you want to be treated.
Richard
On the brighter side….. (at least so far) I have a package in transit from Earth City, MO coming to Seattle, WA – the latest tracking session shows ARRIVAL SCAN HODKINS, IN 06/19/2009 7:18pm with a DEPARTURE SCAN ON 06/19/2009 7:50pm. If this can be trusted, my package wnet through the world’s largest package sorting facility in 32 minutes and is supposedly safely on its way to me. For a non-existent place, they are pretty darned efficient………

“Quick tidbit-
The Chicago Area Consolidation Hub (CACH) is a package sorting hub for United Parcel Service. Located approximately 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Chicago, the facility is so large it is in several municipalities, primarily Willow Springs, Illinois but also Hodgkins.”
Thanks, I knew it was a sorting hub, since I live 65 miles west of Chicago and every one of my UPS ground package goes through there before it gets to my house, NO MATTER which coast it originates in. The only packages of mine that have been there more than a few minutes or hours were the ones that arrived there on Saturday, and that package arrived on my door step at noon Monday.
All of you complainers, you have my full sympathy, but you really need to get into the real world. There are acts of god that cause delays and UPS can do nothing to prevent that from happening. There MIGHT also be some UPS employee cheating in Hodgkins doing a C.Y.A. to hide their own personal screw ups and malfeasance.
If you truly believe that the latter is the case, then find some other means to lodge a complaint with UPS corporate, because this is a very well run company, and they can investigate their computer records after the fact and take steps to stop the CYA business and replace the “weather delay” messages with something more accurate.
Bob
The facility is located at the intersection of 79th and Willow Springs road. It’s for real……honest.
moi
I don’t get it. I ordered a package from the US and live in Ontario and my package was already here, then they shipped it back to Hodgkins IL… IN THE USA ????? Why would they send it back???
BobH
OK, my package moved from Hodgkins IN to Hodgkins IL in 52 minutes. Is this facility so large it is in two states?
Mr. Dave
Been watching this for some time. Time for a refresher.
Illinois doesn’t allow triple trailers on their roads. Indiana and Ohio allow triple trailers on their toll roads. Therefore westbound triples will stop at the UPS facility in Indiana that is named Hodgkins, INDIANA. They must drop a trailer and can continue with 2 trailers to the CACH facility at Hodgkins, ILLINOIS. Another truck will have to hook to the dropped trailer to take it across the state line. Going eastbound, UPS will add a trailer to a double out of Hodgkins, ILLINOIS at Hodgkins, INDIANA.
If a package is sent ground, UPS will use the most economical means to do so. And that means on a train. Hodgkins, ILLINOIS is the largest place where trains are loaded and unloaded. They also use several locations on the east and west coasts as well as a few more in between. Once on a train, it won’t be scanned again until arrival at a UPS facility. The train ride between Hodgkins and the west coast is 3 or 4 days(don’t remember).
Remember, UPS is a company that will unload your package, find out it’s too early and then load it back onto a storage trailer only to be handled again the next day. Don’t want any cheating on their ground service delivery times even if it costs them money to ensure that. I think that’s the purpose of the Maumee (Toledo), OH facility. Hold all early ground packages before they get to the Detroit area (sarcasm). The mark of a company that in my opinion has lost it.
Brendon
Package was listed as being in Sparks, NV (10 minutes from where I live) and then that entry disappeared and shows my package as being in colorado… this was after it arrived twice in hodgkins illonois….
black hole..
My shoes have been in Hodgkins, IL for 2 1/2 days now……hmm. Doesn’t say anything about weather or derailment yet though.
bob
ya my package was sent there and immediately left idk about u guys mine was pretty quick with in 20 minutes idk guys
Ryan
I just tracked a package from Amason coming from Phoenix. It arrived at Hodgkins, IN at about 12:30 pm. I googled that to see where it was and it was not found on google maps. However it had departed Hodgkins, IN at 6:37 and has an arrival scan at Maumee, OH at 6:38. Hahaha. WTF?
martiansoldier
I just tracked a package coming from Wadsworth OH to TX and this package seems to have departed Hodgkins IN over 24 hours ago and no updates since.
Like Ryan did, I googled Hodgkins IN and come up with no results. Where the hell is my package UPS?
REGINA P.
I THOUGHT HODGKINS WAS THE PERSON WHO HAD RECEIVED MY COMPUTER THAT HAS BEEN ENROUTE SINCE 10-12-2009. TODAY, I FINALLY REALIZED IT WAS A PLACE AND FOUND THIS SITE, WHEN I GOOGLED THE NAME. I NOW REALIZE ALL OF OUR PACKAGES ARE AT HODGKINS’ HOUSE AWAITING DELIVERY AND CONSTANTLY ENROUTE FROM “HIM” SINCE 10-13-2009. I AM GLAD TO FIND I AM NOT ALONE AND THE ONLY ONE WAITING FOR UPS TO RING MY DOORBELL.

Found Hodgkins Illinois on my package tracking page. There from midnight to 4:30am, when it leaves and then arrives in Hodgkins Indiana an hour later. Hodgkins Indiana, as we all know from Google, does not really exist. It left Imaginaryland 45 minutes later, en route to me in Henrietta, NY., about 9.5 hours away from Hodgkins Illinois. I was wondering where Imaginaryland was so I would know whether to expect my package today even though it was scheduled from the outset to arrive tomorrow. I’m just THAT impatient. I’m a college student, so receiving packages is the most excitement I get to see most of the time. And as I was typing this far, status changed fro
“in transit to Henrietta” to “arrived in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. So at least it isn’t still in Imaginaryland. Looks like I’ll get it tomorrow then. Oh well. On time is better than late.
Rick
It seems people are having problems with some terms such as transfer facility… this is where the packages are unstrapped from the incoming and restrapped to the outgoing turtles! Derailment.. turtle on it’s side! Weather delay.. these turtles are pretty low to the ground so any puddle deeper than 3 or 4 inches well you can just imagine. Good luck.
toy
laaame…i put a huge order worth hundreds of baby stuff cause im due soon and its supposed to arrive monday and it still says “in transit-on time” yet it says its been at this so called Hodgkins, IN for over 2 days…so i decided to look up this place since from common sense i noticed there is no state with the abbreviation of IN and i got this blog as one of the links…ugh -_- now i know what to expect when monday comes around…and i was planning my hospital tour around UPS’ schedule so i could be here to receive my items…grrrrrrrrrrr
Curious
Thanks Mr. Dave from about 10 posts up. I tracked my shipment and wondered about the Hodgkins Illinois/Indiana thing. It makes sense to me now. Anyway, my shipment spent 59 min in Hodgkins IL, then 50 min in transit to Hodgkins IN (wherever that is) where it stayed for another 54 min. I’ve spent more time than that going through Chicago from one end to the other.
Also, I can’t confirm the black hole at the Maumee facility. My shipment stayed for less than 4 h.
And UPS updated the delivery date to 5 days earlier! It will arrive tomorrow (Wednesday) instead of Monday after the turkey day weekend. 2 days from MN to OH. Good enough for a 2.5 lb ground transport.
Kelli
There is a Hodgkins,Il…its about 15 miles outside Chicago..theres a big post office there
Dewayne
I live in midstate IL and all packages that I send or receive outside of IL always go through Hodgkins. As Kelli stated, Hodgkins is a suburb of Chicago.
Ellen
The package is scanned when it leaves on the truck from IL so how can you expect that it can be scanned again until it reaches it’s destination, you people lack common sense..
Evie
I tought it was strange that my package that originated in Ohio en route to Hawaii was sent further inland while in traffic… so I wanted to see exactly where Hodgkins was… to bad it appears to be in the great State of LIMBO… it just got scanned there. If it takes more than 24 to move form there I am giving UPS an earful…
WHY BLAME HODGKINS? Here I sit in a Milwaukee suburb. I got into this set of sickening crybabies taking out their wrath with UPS on Hodgking, Illinois. All these complaints about the village not being found on Illinois’ map are very false. I YOUR USE YOUR GOD-GIVEN SENSE type the Hodgkins name in Google or any map program and it will take you right to the village. Incidently I am very familiar with Hodgkins. I grew up there. It is one of the most coveted locations in the area (Interstate 55 and I-294; US 12, 20, and 45 and Joliet road).
Hodgkins is a very beautiful, successful and wonderful place to live. 4 large and beautiful parks (large field house, two full size, professionally lit baseball diamonds with bleachers, an excellent public library, and excellent school system, excellent police department with over 20 full time sworn and trained officers, a brand new village administation center, a fire department with three stations, a 14 screen theater, a major shopping center with several auto dealerships, Sam’s, Wallmart, Kohls, the largest Menards in the world, Target and a score more. It has the worlds large’s maker of roofing material called pearlite (also used to retain water in plant soil), It had the mid-west’s largest bakery: Wonder Bread, Holsum. It has Mr. Z’s window blind manufacturing plant, one of the most productive Vulcan Quarries….And yes, 95% of the UPS property lies within the boundries of Hodgkins They move 9 Mil. packages a day. The few blabber’s above compared to 9 Mil. users a day is miniscual. All of this found in a little village of 2100 people is pretty fantastic, I think. Why not take a drive there and have a good steak at the area’s best restaurant and off track betting facility or get a great Chicago Italian beef. Drive through a village where 1/3 of the homes are less than ten years old and the average empty lot if you can find one is well over 100 grand. Take a good look at this ‘”Hell-Hole???” that refunds many of its citizen’s property taxes each year. You should be so lucky to live in HODGKINS! Get a life! By the way all the junk about floods. Look at the map the whole 3 county are was flooded in many places. UPS is right along the DesPlaines river. Look under Chicago Area floods in Google and you will see the millions of dollars in damage in the whole area. Why don’t you blame God because impatient, stupid people like you were born?

I had a package shipped from Cali to WV last week. It is currently on its way to Hodgkins. It has been en route to Hodgkins for 5 days now. I will never have anything shipped ground, from the west coast at least, ever again. Even if it was free! 3-8 day delivery my eye! I could have walked to Hodgkins from WV faster than UPS’s shipping.
Jake
I Live in central WI and almost every package i get goes through Hodgkins IL and they are always on my doorstep 24 hours after they reach Hodgkins!
Matt
My packages often get sucked into what I like to call the Hodgkins triangle… it always goes from Hodgkins IN to Hodgkins IL and then going off the grid for several days until it magically appears in my town and I get it. It’s a weird phenomenon but my packages always get here so I dont complain too much.
Mr. Driver
I drive one of the brown trucks.
We have secret facilities in the basements of Adult bookstores all across the united states. Hodgkins INDIANA is a code word for “transport stopped due to driver R&R”.
There are actual locations for Hodgkins IN., drive down the interstate, You will see adult bookstores everywhere. They put the signs so high it the air that you won’t even notice the Brown trucks parked there.
Hodgkins IL is a code word for “transport stopped due to driver exercise” HEY we gotta look good in these brown outfits! All UPS trucks and transports have gyms custom built into them for the drivers.
Glad I could clear this up for everybody.
Denis
This how to aggravate an established business, one customer at a time. I gather UPS has never visited this site or it arrogantly disregards the sentiment on this thread. At the very least, they could change the excuse from inclement weather to something more believable.
Ken
Seems this has been going on for several years. I am in the same boat – literally – I have a boat stuck in Hodgkins, IL due to “adverse weather” or a “natural disaster”. Maybe they can use my boat, load up a few other packages and float out of the situation. Thanks to everyone who wrote on this blog. At least I got a chuckle out of the comments. I’m hoping to receive my boat some day (hopefully before my vacation).
johnnybee
Yeah- what the hell’s going on in lovely Hodgkin’s Disease, ILL? I like how UPS is clamming up. Hmmm I guess we get our packages whenever

Add another to the waiting in Hodgkins list. Anniversary present for my wife, I’m glad I ordered it 2 weeks early…
Christina
you really gotta be kidding me! I am in the same boat as you guys and it is 2010 July! my camera is stuck in this Hodgkins IL town for 2 days already due to ‘adverse weather condition’. I called UPS and the guy did tell me that not even his supervisor knew about this apparent weather condition in IL. I had to wait and see, he said. So I called the company that I bought the camera from and he was helpful. He got UPS on the line and called the local office to make sure my camera is accounted for (and not lost). Apparently they have flooding problems….Now after reading your posts, IS IT REALLY FLOODING THERE?? ahhhhhhh Should I just cancel my order??
Steve
I guess I am not the only one with this problem. When I asked UPS what was going on the response I got was “Dear Steve, Thank you for your e-mail. I have checked the status of your shipment in our tracking system. Unfortunately, our records indicate that your shipment was temporarily delayed in-transit on 07/26/10 due to adverse weather conditions. This weather delay was outside of our control. UPS makes every effort to deliver every package as soon as possible.” Sounds to me like they lost my package as well.

3 of my packages have been sitting in Hodgkins, IL for the last 3 days—all apparently due to “ADVERSE WEATHER”. This is total crap because I have been watching the weather in IL and there have been clear and sunny periods with low winds for most of the last 2 days. This is the UPS way of sticking it to their customers, a built in blow-out valve in their system, whenever some delay happens some kind of weather mysteriously manifests. I hate UPS! The one package I send by USPS has already arrived. Save your money and don’t use UPS. United Postal Service sucks!
Vent over.
Gord Smith
I have a package sitting in Hodgkins, IL. It has been there for 6 days. They report ADVERSE WEATHER but I can’t find any significant weather problems in IL at all. I work in airport communication services and talk to the meteorological teams all the time and in the last week they can’t identify any significant weather issues that could ground a plane for more than a few hours tops. There is clearly some kind of corporate designed UPS black hole to cover up problems in their delivery chain. I will be changing all of our deliveries to other carriers and I suggest everyone do the same.
Grrrrrr
7/29/2010 don’t know if you all noticed… these posts don’t have dates. I’ve been anxiously awaiting a package and discovered today that it is in Hodgkins IL for ‘adverse weather’. I said ok, I’ll look up the weather there… it is July after all- what would it be at this time of hear? The weather in Hodgkins is lovely today. Glad I found this blog. I wonder how long it’ll be. Mistakes happen but I’m stunned that UPS is being so misleading.. to put it nicely. Why not just call it what it is… a delay!
Loren
7/29/10
Coincidence? I think not! My trucks broke and waiting for PCM from UPS. I wonder if they will pay my lost wages. Whoda thunk there would be a site just for misplaced items? Yall should include dates in your posts so future viewers can determine frequancy of issues. I’m still waiting since shipped on 7/15/10!
Loren
Sorry, Hodgkins, claim is adverse weater but it has been in the upper 80’s. Sounds kinda nice to me.
cristie
I have the same sad story. I am calling UPS tomorrow, armed with this information I got on this blog from all of you. I am pissed. My package has been there for two days, again, held hostage.
Good luck everyone –
Can we report this to the BBB?
Any other organization to make a claim?
Arghhhh!!!!
NO way UPS again!!!!!!
Sherry
I just got off the phone with UPS this morning, July 30, 2010.The lady said my package is stuck there and I need to contact the seller to start a claim. WHAT!?!? I am told the reason my expensive package is stuck in Hodgkins is due to adverse weather and my package has been sitting in a trailer since the 27th. The seller mailed it out on the 23rd. I am VERY disappointed with UPS for allowing everyone’s packages to go there, if that really is the case.
Steph
I as well bought Struts for my Chevy Trailblazer, was quoted to have them on July 29th. Made an appointment for July 30th. No package due to ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS in HODGKINS, IL, US. Now I have to reschedule my appointment @ the garage, and hope I don’t get a cancel fee. I called U.P.S and told them about this site I have found that has hundreds of people complaining about this location! so why keep using it if has so many complaints? I told the lady hey I googled it no weather conditions??? She goes on to tell me it was in Savanna IL, there was flooding and washed out train tracks! So I asked “YOU couldn’t put my package in a truck?” I got a bunch of I’m Sorries, I know it wasn’t this ladies fault but who in the end has to pay? US we do! If I knew it was going to take this long I would have paid for Parcel post, and got it BY NOW! I’ll Think twice before I use them again!
nathan
Adverse weather was 77 degrees and sunny on Jul 27, 2010, been stuck there due to this horrible weather for 3 days so far.
Apparently this little scam is still going on.
Alysondra
Hi guys!
I was tracking my package, and I told my dad that it had been in Hodgkins IN for only an hour, but then it was in Hodgkins IL for about 23 hours… I asked my dad who works for UPS and he said that the IN one is not a full facility, but it’s like a trade off point, and the lingo that they use means that it is IN INDIANA but going to HODGKINS. Its a yard on the toll road b/c IL doesnt let triple trailers in, so they have to break the trailers up into single loads. This means that your package is scanned again when the trailer is broken up. I hope this helps someone… I always have mine go through the IN and the IL one and I always get them on time!
Mr. Driver
“adverse weather” is code for a huge warehouse party that we have a couple of times a year. We get a couple of beer trucks and a band set up in the facility and then LOCK the doors for the party!

AMEN!
This is the place where my package is being reportedly delayed by a train derailment. thoughts to my self(why is my package on a train at all).Any rate this is what came up on the ups web tracking website..
im in the same place as mark, have you looked at all the derailments that they have in this little ass town?
Wikipedia says that this out back town is home to a large UPS sorting facility. It stands to reason that the town is all brown, if it really is tiny. The derailment occurred in New York, you can watch it here:
http://www.clipsyndicate.com/publish/video/499170/train_derailment_update
Don’t worry, your viagra from Canada will be there faster than you can say; ‘Wood.’
Oh this is wonderful. Looks like I’ll be waiting awhile for my overstock.com purchase (officially listed as a weather incident delay). And my amazon.com shipment is being held hostage by some outfit called CEVA shipping. They won’t even answer the phone!
I looked up the destination when my package arrived and departed from the same place in two days. WOW! I feel like I just discovered a UPS cover-up! This is too weird.
GOOD GRIEF! I was thinking that Hodgkins was probably a suburb to Chicaogo or St Louis given my package came from Kentucky and is on its way to KC. And now I find that it is stuck due to weather -that is pathetic!!
Guess from now on I’ll have to use Fed Ex!
Grrrr…I live in souther WI and there has been NO “ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS” anywhere in the area. It’s been 81 degrees and SUNNY! I guess maybe the UPS drivers in IL consider heat to be “ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS”. Now my package is stuck and I already waited a week for it.
Apparently there is flooding in Hodgkins, IL. I called this number 7083874200 and they redirected me to this number 6309907839 which has a recording because they are sooooo overwelmed with phone calls due to the flooding.
Well Dillon, apparently are 360’s are having a blast there. I was hoping to get my Xbox 360 back in time for this weekend, since I am going to be gone, and I HAVE TO SIGN FOR IT!!! Grrr, if they try to deliver it when i’m gone and they ship it back to Microsoft, ima gonna be PISSED!!! I only had it for a week before the RROD. >
Just got my packages today. I guess it’s acceptable for them to be one day late, but I dunno.
My package arrived in Hodgkins on the 24th, then 48 hours later I got the dreaded bad weather exception. Now, what should have taken 3 days will take 6. Arghhh
I gurss I’m stuck with everyone else. My package left NV on the 20th and has been stuck in Hodgkins since the 25th. Says “advers weather conditions”. This sucks.
Same thing. I’ve got an Epiphone Dot Guitar stuck there. Was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but has been stranded there since 1 PM yesterday.
This really sucks. First UPS ships my package to the west instead of the east, and now it is stuck in friggin hogkins IL. No one is of any help. My son published his book and his first book signing is tomorrow with NO BOOKS!!!!!!!!!
Crap, my package is stuck in Hodgkins since yesterday. It was supposed to be delivered today. I’m moving on Tuesday… so I hope it un-sticks itself quickly.
My package should have been delivered 3 days ago. What is going on down there? Flooding?
No mention on the news about bad weather other than rain in Chicago. I will not accept failure to reimburse shipping charges without proof of a severe storm in the area.
I’m glad my package was insured, that’s for sure.
hi, my item also hodgkins, from california, but according to ups , that its held up in california till its safe to drop in hodjkins., i dont know.
now, i know ups is lying, looked on the map, checked weather, hodgkins is fine, they 20 minutes from the house.
Add another one to the list. I’ve been waiting for my package thats stuck in Hodkins since the 25th. I live in Chicago so I’m probably going to end up picking up the package but I don’t have a car or someone to take me and the package is pretty big. :(
sandra, dont go to pick up, unless you know its there, i think adverse weather means lost or delayed package.
Wow. I thought we were also in this. I think this is linked to the Chicago phenomenon. You know all planes get delayed there because of weather. With Hodgkins close by, whoknows. But, it seems like the Airlines and UPS would find an alternate hub.
JH
The “adverse weather” delays are not actually in Chicago. There are major train lines in to the Chicago area that are flooded in MO.
Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe are backed up and UPS used those carriers to move packages arcross the country.
Check out this website http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2008/06/13/ap5116014.html
Add me to the list. Have a cornet coming from Kansas. Left on 6/24 was to be here (Rochester, NY) on 6/27. It has been stuck in Hodgkins since 6/25. It is now 6/28.
Went to Dan’s Forbe’s link but it is dated 6/13. I don’t think that is affecting this week’s shipments because is states they expect to back in action by the first of the week (6/16).
All very mysterious!
Wendy
Wow. I knew I had a reason to be mad at UPS. I’ve been waiting for a package to leave there since the 24th. It should have arrived on the 25. Still not here (as of the 28)
My package(s), like Jake’s, has been held up in Hodgkins since June 24. It should have arrived here on June 25, 2008; it is now June 28.
Interesting that Mark says that UPS says that his package is reportedly being delayed because of a train derailment. UPS says that my package(s) are being delayed because of adverse weather conditions in Hodgkins.
Same here. Package has been stuck there since June 24. The store then send a back-ordered item on June 26 and is stuck there also. If they do have a flood problem to begin with, why in the world would they send it through Hogkins again 2 days later.
I have good news to report! My package tracking status changed to:
HODGKINS,
IL, US 06/29/2008 12:38 P.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
from:
HODGKINS,
IL, US 06/25/2008 10:00 P.M. ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
“Cheeeeeese” says that he/she hasn’t had any updates. It’s actually quite easy to go to the UPS website and fill out the fields to be sent daily updates on your package(s)’ location, expectation of delivery, and reasons for delay.
still haven’t received my package and it’s five days late. quite odd.
My package is lost here as well! Just got off the phone with UPS and apparently there is terrible flooding in HODGKINS, IL! My package has been stuck there for 4 days!
Add my name to the list package was to be deliverd on the 27th stuck in Hodgkins, Il due to weather but when I check the weather report I do not see anything foe Hodgkins.
My UPS Package Progress…CURRENT STATUS: IN TRANSIT
July 01, 2008 3:00 PM HODGKINS, IN US ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
June 27, 2008 4:26 PM HODGKINS, IN US DEPARTURE SCAN
Add me. I have two packages there as well.
I just got off the phone with a customer service rep at UPS. My package is still underwater in Hodgkins since 6/30. She has stated she’s starting to see more and more packages getting through, but it will take some time. Also she stated that they will not expedite any package deliveries based on their delay.
Fun.
Danny,
Thank you for proving to everyone on the world wide web that you are not intelligent enough to have a conversation without insulting someone elses opinion.
Sorry, there was a typo. The Redmond departure should read 6/26/2008
i was in the same boat as everyone else here.
but i recieved my package today. . .here’s hoping everyone else recieves thier packages soon.
Just got an update that my package is out for delivery!! 2-3 days turned out to be 2 1/2 weeks. Atleast I’ll be receiving it today because I’m heading out of town this evening for the holidays. Good Luck to all and have a good weekend.
WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO TYPE?
Sent a package to Southern California from Northern California. SOMEHOW it found it’s way to HODGKINS, IL!!!!! WTF? Never using UPS ground again.
It’s been 9 days so far.
Guys, I’m now in the same situation. Could you please tell me if your packages finally showed up? My heart is about to stop…
Thanks!
my new lap top is stuck the damnit
Iv lost 1 package in hodgkins, and another showed up in Hodgkin, left, then went back to Hodgkin and was a day late getting delivered.
RAWR
I’m having the same problem as everyone here. It turns out this is area IS prone to flooding and UPS is may not be deceiving us:
http://www.wunderground.com/US/IL/014.html#FLO
I’ve called once of their main shipping hubs and requested more detailed information on a package of mine (extremely urgent package) and was told that a rail track was probably washed out. I was also told that my package was being rerouted directly to its destination and all packages should be delived by the end of the week.
Oh and this should help clear some things up: (from a comment above)

W00t it’s MOVING again!

I’m having trouble figuring out why my package, which originated in California, needs to go to Illinois on its way to Vancouver, BC, which is also on the West Coast!!
Mine is a 3-day select package that shows departing Hodgkins, IL 4 days ago in transit to San Marcos, TX. It shoudl have been delivered yesterday, has a rescheduled delivery of today, but has not been scanned in 4 days. Frustrating adn UPS was no help.
My package is in hodgkins right now. I have a feeling that only people who have problems ever find this site, so it just looks bad. This place handles lots of packages and sometimes shit happens. I’ll keep you guys updated.
It’s due tomorrow I should mention… It was 2nd day.
Package has left hodgkins, and is in Dubuque (where I live) now… Should be here within the next few hours. My tracking number is right here if you wish to look.

Hodgkins, IL sure doesn’t have good luck, does it? Adverse weather conditions every other day and now another train derailment. Hoping that Halloween party equipment comes in time for Halloween….
I hear that, Have a package coming to Rochester, NY and current status? Freakin’ train derailment. Seeing all the people posting here make me think that something would have been done by now.
Management will laugh at all of you.
You people are on crack! There is NO UPS “X-File” cover-up here……
My package has been sitting at the Hodkins location for almost seven days. I told the shipper use USPS or no more business with me. UPS SUCKS!
My package has been sitting at the Hodkins location for almost seven days. I told the shipper use USPS or no more business with me. UPS SU_CKS!
Guess I will be the first in the new year to report yet another Hodgkins mystery…my package is reported as an “exception” right now which “may result in a delay”. It was to have arrived on the 6th of January. We should get John Stossel to investigate this place! :)
Update: Package is in transit again and still due to arrive on the 6th. Fingers crossed!
here i am.. waiting my package… GUESS WHAT… ITS IN HODGKINS, IL…. it arrived there 2 or 3 days before christmas… just checked again and its still there… um… BLACK HOLE OF DEATH.. i guess i’ll just keep waiting.
Hey, Richard taylor stop ordering last minute for christmas and then point fingers! Plan ahead Ricky Whaaaaaa-Whaaaaaa
Hi. I just googled and found this page. Just waiting on a bag I ordered. It’s in Hodgkins right now :-) Bye.
I had about 30 packaged sent to me during this holiday! All we’re ordered by the 12 of December. The only package that was delivered late was from the Great U S Post Office .UPS delivered all of the other packages no problems (1 package was delivered by a ups driver at 6pm on the 24th)you can’t get better than that, I’m sure he wanted to get home to his family on Christmas Eve
dang, mystery adverse weather condition @ HODGKINS, IL!!!!
dang, mystery adverse weather condition @ HODGKINS, IL!!!! i had 1 package supposely delivered 1-28,,still says DEPARTURE from HODGKINS!!! now 2 days later, nothing.
Kal, where did you read about adverse weather in hodgkins, IL? I have a package thats been sitting in Hodgkins for three days now, its scheduled delivery is the 3rd of February, but it still says “on time”. Thanks
Hey I got lucky, my package was only there 2 1/2 days. It finally shows a departure scan today. WOO HOO!!!!!
HODGKINS,

my package was said to have left this twilght zone two days ago. but now is nowhere. i just want my stuff. UPS sucks.
My package has been sitting in Hodgkin for 2 days. WTF?!?!? All the other places it was only there for 3-6 hours.
I recently bought an iphone from ebay from macon georgia to peoria,il and everything has been running smoothly but it is currently sitting in Hodgkins, Il but is scheduled for delivery tomorrow(4/15/09)….we’ll see
Man, I ordered some speaker parts from parts-express.com, and now the parts are stuck in hodgkins. WHY ARE THEY SENDING STUFF BY TRAIN?? This is the 21st century isn’t it? Damn you UPS.
WOW! Same here, one package arrived this morning, 2 other packages of toner from GovConnection are missing due to ADVERSE WEATHER. Do they mean the SUN that has been out intermittently the last two days in Seattle? .
SEATTLE, WA, US 04/16/2009 10:00 A.M. ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
HODGKINS, IL, US 04/14/2009 7:00 A.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
HODGKINS, IL, US 04/13/2009 9:34 A.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
my package went through there just fine, after it processed for nearly 20 hours.
Oh I was wrong try sorting through a million packages a day. Over half go on train cars.
I am betting on the black hole in IL.
wow.thank you very much admin
Hmm… my package has been in “Hodgkins, Indiana” since yesterday morning. After reading these comments, I’m a little stymied. Who knew idle curiosity and a Google search for an obscure town would reveal such bizarre circumstances. As far as I know, my package hasn’t been delayed by a flood or a train derailment, but I’ll anticipate worst and hope for the best. :)
HODGKINS,
IL, US 06/02/2009 2:01 A.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
HODGKINS,
IL, US 06/01/2009 1:18 A.M.
Far out!

The facility is located at the intersection of 79th and Willow Springs road. It’s for real……honest.
I don’t get it. I ordered a package from the US and live in Ontario and my package was already here, then they shipped it back to Hodgkins IL… IN THE USA ????? Why would they send it back???
OK, my package moved from Hodgkins IN to Hodgkins IL in 52 minutes. Is this facility so large it is in two states?
Package was listed as being in Sparks, NV (10 minutes from where I live) and then that entry disappeared and shows my package as being in colorado… this was after it arrived twice in hodgkins illonois….
My shoes have been in Hodgkins, IL for 2 1/2 days now……hmm. Doesn’t say anything about weather or derailment yet though.
ya my package was sent there and immediately left idk about u guys mine was pretty quick with in 20 minutes idk guys
Hahaha. WTF?
I just tracked a package coming from Wadsworth OH to TX and this package seems to have departed Hodgkins IN over 24 hours ago and no updates since.
Like Ryan did, I googled Hodgkins IN and come up with no results. Where the hell is my package UPS?
Good luck.
laaame…i put a huge order worth hundreds of baby stuff cause im due soon and its supposed to arrive monday and it still says “in transit-on time” yet it says its been at this so called Hodgkins, IN for over 2 days…so i decided to look up this place since from common sense i noticed there is no state with the abbreviation of IN and i got this blog as one of the links…ugh -_- now i know what to expect when monday comes around…and i was planning my hospital tour around UPS’ schedule so i could be here to receive my items…grrrrrrrrrrr
There is a Hodgkins,Il…its about 15 miles outside Chicago..theres a big post office there
I live in midstate IL and all packages that I send or receive outside of IL always go through Hodgkins. As Kelli stated, Hodgkins is a suburb of Chicago.
The package is scanned when it leaves on the truck from IL so how can you expect that it can be scanned again until it reaches it’s destination, you people lack common sense..
And it says Hodgkins IN, not IL…
I Live in central WI and almost every package i get goes through Hodgkins IL and they are always on my doorstep 24 hours after they reach Hodgkins!
My packages often get sucked into what I like to call the Hodgkins triangle… it always goes from Hodgkins IN to Hodgkins IL and then going off the grid for several days until it magically appears in my town and I get it. It’s a weird phenomenon but my packages always get here so I dont complain too much.
This how to aggravate an established business, one customer at a time. I gather UPS has never visited this site or it arrogantly disregards the sentiment on this thread. At the very least, they could change the excuse from inclement weather to something more believable.
Yeah- what the hell’s going on in lovely Hodgkin’s Disease, ILL? I like how UPS is clamming up. Hmmm I guess we get our packages whenever

Add another to the waiting in Hodgkins list. Anniversary present for my wife, I’m glad I ordered it 2 weeks early…
you really gotta be kidding me!
Vent over.
Sorry, Hodgkins, claim is adverse weater but it has been in the upper 80’s. Sounds kinda nice to me.
Adverse weather was 77 degrees and sunny on Jul 27, 2010, been stuck there due to this horrible weather for 3 days so far.
Apparently this little scam is still going on.
“adverse weather” is code for a huge warehouse party that we have a couple of times a year. We get a couple of beer trucks and a band set up in the facility and then LOCK the doors for the party!
They sometimes last 3-4 days.
