The Ultimate Cell Phone?
The ultimate cell phone is first a phone.
- It is not a game machine.
- It is not a web browser.
- It is not an MP3 player.
- It is not a camera.
- It is not an email client.
- It is not a calendar.
- It is not a clock.
- It is not an IM device.
- It is not a Global Positioning System.
- It is not a modem.
Again, the ultimate cell phone is first a phone.
Not convinced? Here’s some evidence:

Amen brother. It’s getting harder and harder to find a phone without all sorts of excess I never use, but have to pay the price for (both in usability and monetary terms).

I’m just renewing my Verizon account and in the market for phones. I was looking at some of the swankier smart phones, like the treo, but think I will go with the Razor. Sure, I’d have a kick-ass web browser on hand at all times if I go with the treo, but this is what I told my girlfriend: “The razor is a phone that works, and it’s thin.” The extra $200-$300 I would spend on a better phone could be better spent elsewhere.

I love my Audiovox SMT5600 SmartPhone. It is a great phone first and foremost, but it is jacked up if you’re an advanced user.

An ad running on television here in Oz at the moment shows a school class of 6 or 7 year olds sitting in front of their teacher, who holds a picture book. Turning to a page with a line drawing of a mobile phone, she asks: “And what is this?” The child that answers goes through about as many things as you have above (ie “A television? A calendar? An alarm clock?…”) before landing on the only other option he can think of…a mobile telephone. It’s cute and funny, but all too painfully real!

I’ve been saying this for years. The instant the first graphically-enhanced phone came out, I bemoaned what was sure to become low-quality, all-in-one gadgets that claimed to be phones first and foremost. With far too much functionality sacrificed for more features, I’ve just been completely disheartened. I want my life to be simpler - not more complicated. If I’m out and about and bored, I bring a book. I love gadgets, but not when they’re like the horrendous mess that’s all over the marketplace now.
My boyfriend recently got a phone. It’s got the very simple interface of a Nokia phone I had 3 years ago (graphically enhanced, though), with no extra bells and whistles. I LOVE it. The buttons are also lovely and soft… I can’t remember the model number.

Well I have a Sony Ericsson W810I and I love it. It has everything you want for calling people, noise cancelling head phones, speaker phone, excellent signal. But it is also my camera, Mp3 player, games system and it’s as big as a regular cell phone with no added gadgets. The buttons are easy to push and far enough away so you won’t press 3 at the same time. It’s very straight forward and easy to use, light weight, small, stylish, practical, affordable. This cell phone is no hand held computer or camera with a cell phone but a cell phone/mp3 player/camera. I don’t know why most people wouldn’t want this phone but I can also see why some people would rather just buy a cell phone for calling people, But in my case I wanted a new cell phone, camera, & MP3. This phone is probably the most durrable phone I have owned since it’s not a flip, slide, or swivel design. I’ve dropped it numerous times and there’s not a scratch on it, works perfectly, and still calls people. My advice to you people who just want a normal cell phone with no features, don’t go to a store but go online and buy a cell phone online for cheap then go to a retailer and get a plan.

From my experience sony and nokia make the best phones over all, with excellent functionality, durability, signal quality, connectivity. They also have a huge selection of phones from ones that just call people to the best all in one phones money can buy. Don’t settle for a Motorola, they plain suck, they’re weak, shitty signal, not very reliable. I once threw my nokia (forget which model.. about 2 years old) down my street about 70 feet, then walked over picked it up put the battery in and the only things wrong were a few scratches. My friend had a motorola and the antenna fell out so he couldnt call people when he used the camera everything froze and he only dropped it once. When he tried to get it fixed they claimed it was water damage and wouldn’t repair it. So I hope this will help you see both sides of this subject and help you in choosing a new cell phone.

I like having everything on my phone. It makes it possible to carry things that you may need or want in one device. I currently own the blackberry pearl and I think its the best phone I’ve ever owned.

I’m 24, so most people might think I want all the bells and whistles of a phone. But I don’t. I’m totally blind and frustrated with all the extra features and the menus in phones today. While it’s true that some are accessible through screenreaders like Talks, Mobile Speak and Smart Hal, most are not. All I want is a phone where I can tell who’s calling, check the battery and change the ring tone on my own. I don’t need a web browser, (that they charge you extra for using), an mp3 player, a camera and images/wallpaper that I can’t see anyway. I want a phone that’s not the size of my palm, that has easy-to-feel numbers, not ones that are all smushed together and that has some kind of decent battery life. Any advice? Btw, I’m on TMobile.
