The six species of Information Architect

“Given that IA as a profession is really only about 10yrs old (or at least, that’s the figure I hear bandied about), it makes sense that *most* IAs have a ‘past life’ of one kind or another. This has got me to thinking that there are probably about six different species of Information Architect, based on the kind of professional past life they’ve had (nor not).” (Author: Leisa Reichelt)
- graphic designer/visual artist
- producer/project manager/product manager
- reformed developer/techie
- information sciences/library dudes
- writer/copywriter/content types
- usability IA
- nouveau IA (fresh skin graduate types)
“The ultimate IA is probably a combination of all of these things.”

I don’t like the “reformed develop” tag. I would prefer to label it as “Enlightened Developer” or “Humanist Developer” perhaps.
“Reformed Developer” sounds like a developer who is no longer developing whereas “Enlightened Developer” sounds like one who continues the craft.
