Usability Thanksgiving in January
I believe in holidays that don’t fall on holidays. We should give people gifts randomly, when they least expect it. I believe that we need to all celebrate with our friends, families, and colleagues more than we do. I believe in offering unsolicited praise and goodwill when it is least expected. With that, I want to say Thank You to several people in the user experience and usability world.
- Thanks Dano (Daniel Szuc), MadMan (Madhu Menon), and Mac (Chris McEvoy). You guys continue to support WebWord after all these years. Also, I appreciate the conversations we’ve had over the years. (Note that I’ve added your real names in case you do some searches for your name. Wink, wink.)
- Thanks to Jakob Nielsen. You drive me nuts and I don’t always agree with your wild claims but you’ve done good things for everyone who cares about usability.
- Thanks to Steve Krug. We’re thinking less because of you.
- Thanks to Peter Morville and Lou Rosenfeld for IA for the WWW. Also, really loving Ambient Findability!
Of course, I could keep going and going. So I will for a minute.
- Thanks to Don Norman for The Design of Everyday Things. Still diggin’ it. Also, still diggin’ your thoughts about Thinking Beyond Usability.
- Thanks to Alan Cooper. Who is an inmate?
- Thanks to Peter Van Dijck. Maybe we’ll collaborate soon
- Thanks to Michael Roberts of MarketFace. Might be contacting you soon!
- Thanks to Jared Spool. I’ve enjoyed the two long conversations we’ve had. Hoping for more. And, I still dig the Usability of Usability.
- Thanks to Jaron Rubenstein. Glad that Logicept (Rubenstein Technology Group) is alive and kicking. We should chat again some time.
- Thanks to Mark Hurst and Creative Good. Just because. Yes, I need to make it to GEL. We’ve got to collaborate one of these days.
Yes, I could still go on. If I’ve left you out, feel free to kick me.
I’ll end by saying THANK YOU to all the loyal WebWord readers over the years. There’s always been a great collection of folks visiting and writing me. I also appreciate your patience. Over the years, we’ve had some rough technical issues. Thanks for sticking with me.
Please continue to grab the RSS feed, link to WebWord, share with your friends, and post your comments. I love the interaction. I’ll keep pushing hard if I know you are there.
Take care and let’s all have a great 2006.

How about…
Thanks to John Rhodes who, after many run-ins with his nemesis Technology, still keeps us up-to-date with what is going on in the world of Big-U Usability.
And thanks also for helping Business Logs get started sooner based on your advice. Can you believe it has been two years since we talked about all that? :)

Thanks Matthew…you’ve been here for a while too.
I’ve got to fix Oristus next. You’ve got a great interview out there and I want to point to it. (More technology issues; insanity!) Expect that to go live again in 1-2 weeks. ;-)
Business Logs is awesome. Glad to provide some guidance and inspiration.
I hope we collaborate in a serious way this year.
Rock on!

Thank you, John! Here in Finland we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but I still want to thank you for keeping up the good work with one of my favourite blogs of all time.

Right on John. It’s always about the people.

Pleasure and look forward to future JSR predictions, insights, thoughts and discussions on where technology is headed and impacts on all societies (connected and soon to be connected).
Usability prediction for 2006 - User Research methods to continue to gain interest & popularity include Site Visits, Ethnography etc moving slowly away from the User Testing side (as this becomes a commodity & as Product Teams aim to develop Products around real user needs)
