Web Site Usability and SEO
ClickZ — “Many usability professionals discount the querying process because once people arrive on a Web site, they’re more likely to browse than perform a search. Additionally, usability professionals don’t consider the search engine persona.”
Does Search Engine Optimization (SEO) come before usability?

I think it’s a question of where you expect to get your traffic from. A lot of web sites don’t rely on search engines for the majority of their traffic, and in those cases SEO isn’t important. But if you want good traffic from search engines, then SEO and usability both need to be considered in the web site design. Unfortunately, too many web designers focus primarily on usability (well, actually many don’t even consider that) and not much on SEO. But usability doesn’t matter if you don’t get any traffic.
The day is past when all a web designer needs to do is make a web site look attractive.
