Favorite Type of Alert?
In a world of information obesity we have been getting clever about sifting through the noise, or should I say, having machines do sifting for us. If we didn’t, we would probably collapse. One way to stay on top of priorities is to use alerts. Here are some examples:
* Email alerts
* Taskbar alerts
* Audio alerts
* SMS alerts
What is your favorite type of alert or notification?

I’d be very far behind at work were it not for the new message alert in Outlook.
Problematically, those alerts disappear if you sort mail into multiple baskets. It took me days to find how to turn them back on; it was set up in the rule itself rather than associated with each basket - which makes more sense to me.

The good old physical types: Put something I have to remember in front of the doorway, on top of my shoes, etc. Outlook reminders are also very nice.
A very important one is if I know why something must be done, it helps a lot. For instance, if an instruction says “Always do this”, I probably will always do that if it gives the reason as something like “Otherwise the file will not be saved and you will lose all your data”.
