Good article.
Think some of the tools in our toolbox should be passed on and into Product Development teams (the idea of approaching and applying development from a user view and linking this with business objectives).
Also see opportunities for Usability folks to assist with the total product strategy and how best to apply the activities ar the right time. Finally, perhaps there is room for usability folks to help conduct user research when products are being conceptualised to determine if the team is on the right track or if a tweak in direction is required. Move us into helping with the product direction whilst still keeping a toe in testing land. It all helps :)
