When I first started in this field, I quickly found out it was difficult to explain what I do in 25 words or less. And mostly because I went over the 25 mark by using more words to explain the words I used in the initial 25. :) So I just started to say, "I design software."

But what I do is more than design software. The funny thing is, what I think about when describing what I do is something akin to an Efficiency Expert. Like the Bob's in Office Space. Except that has such a bad connotation. I'd point out that perhaps a certain role within the company wasn't needed, but that wouldn't necessarily mean the people need to be let go.

Efficient doesn't just mean cutting costs. Just yesterday I decsribed what I do as, "improving business processes and designing Web-based applications." Though I am thinking about going back to my very first iteration of thw what-I-do-do description: Superhero, Swashbuckler, Adventurer Extraordinaire.
