Cameras help commuters preview expressway woes online
Chicago Sun-Times — “Drivers worried about getting stuck in traffic snarls can now take a peek at “real-time” pictures of construction zones linked to the Illinois Department of Transportation Web site.”
Of course the idea is for people to look at the web site before getting on the road. However, many people have web access in their vehicles via laptops, PDAs, and smartphones. While this might help some people plan ahead, it is quite possible that accidents will increase because people are surfing the web for construction and accident information. What an irony.
