The Age — “There is a school of thought that it is users that really invent the application of technology; that developers invent technology but users are the primary innovators of how these are applied.”

What is the name of this “school of thought”? Do you know? I don’t.

    I believe this is called the school of the killer app. When you read something like “tablet PCs have yet to find their killer app,” it’s the hope customers will suggest or develop one.

    This is probably derived from William Gibson, “The street finds its own uses for things, uses the manufacturers never imagined.” And mixed with a simplified reading of Crossing the Chasm’s theory of tech adoption.

    There’s also the oft practiced marketing tactic of throwing it against the wall and seeing what sticks.
