A Little Vacation
I’ll be on the road for several days so don’t expect too much in the way of updates. Don’t be angry, I need the time off. ;-)
I’ll leave you with a story about battery life. As many people know I just bought an MPX200 SmartPhone. So far it has been excellent, except for one thing. The battery drains very quickly. I have to charge it every single night, no matter how much or how little I use it. I’m not used to that. I’m used to charging my phone every 3-5 days.
I’m very worried that I’ll be out and about some day and then my phone will die just when I need it the most. I really depend on my phone for a lot, as I am sure many of you do. Poor battery life could seriously impact my life!
I guess there isn’t much that I can do. I would like a better battery but that isn’t going to happen. I could give up on the phone, I could buy a spare battery, or maybe I could just suck it up. You know, get used to watching the battery like a hawk.
Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the land of tradeoffs. Standard digital phones (example: GSM technology) have standby times of days. Smart phones have more powerful processors, more memory, bigger displays, and therefore take more power. Add the desire to cut weight - - the heaviest component in the phone is the battery - - and there you are.
I have an integrated phone/pda (Blackberry) and have to charge daily. If I do lots of phone air time the battery goes down quick. Mail only, it will last for a couple of days. For my next equipment purchase I may go back to a straight phone and have a separate blackberry sans phone. It will be one more device and charger combination but it may be more useful.

Not that I have a solution for your problem, but you should buy one of those portable chargers they are advertising….the one that extends your battery life and just plugs in at the bottom of your phone.
At least that way you won’t get caught with your pants down………

Treo 600 - read about this for about 1 year and improved battery life from previous versions. On medium usage only have to re-charge once every 2.5 days. On heavy usage, once every 1.5 days. On lite usage, once every 3.5 days. A really lovely PDA.
