.coop Domain Names?

Has anyone else seen any .coop web sites? Here is the first one I have seen: Avalanche. Strange looking, if you ask me.

Is it me, or are the number of domain name extensions just becoming to many?

Maybe we should be looking at dropping extensions all together and you just register your domain name, without the extension. so JB.com would just be JB

Or am I moving towards an AOL way of thinking?

The problem with that is you run into the inability for others to have the same name, even if both your companies have the initials J.B. and are in different countries. Let alone people with those initials ever having the chance to register their own domain name.

Domain names are supposed to be open to everyone. You obviously can’t have that if there’s only one instance of any possible combination of words and letters ever allowed. Think of the monopolies you’d have.

I’m all for more domain extensions. They may look odd, but it opens up new possibilities every time they come out with one, and .com, .net and .org are still the most desirable extensions around - so you don’t have to worry about their impact being diluted.
