Email Moves Slower than Postal Mail for Travelocity
For a variety of reasons, good and bad, I decided to use Travelocity to book some flights in the near future. I submitted my membership information and moved forward with my purchase. When I checked my email, this is the first part of the message they sent:
Dear JOHN,
Thanks so much for joining Travelocity!
Your private login name is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
In just a couple of days, we’ll be sending you an email
outlining all the benefits that come with Travelocity
membership. Tools you can start using right away to save, plan
and make every trip better.
We look forward to serving you!

I have a couple of comments. First, I did not want to join Travelocity. It was a forced submission of information and a complete waste of my time. I was unable to bypass this step so it is quite irritating that they are thanking me.
More interesting is that they are going to tell me about the benefits of Travelocity in a few days. What kind of insanity is that? Are they doing it for marketing reasons (i.e., primacy-recency)? Are they just simply insane? They could be doing a better job at managing the customer experience via email.
Oh, one more thing. Who wrote this sentence?
“Tools you can start using right away to save, plan and make every trip better.”
I’m as guilty as the next guy but is this even a complete sentence? It seems like a fragment to me. In my opinion, that is not good considering that this is a very serious e-commerce relationship involving hundreds of dollars.
