The Banality of the Radical -- "As more Web designers begin transforming their sites from the tables-fonttags-single-pixel-gifs concoctions to stripped-down CSS chic, more observers are asking the questions: if the promise of CSS and standards was liberation from the tyranny of warring browser lords, why do all the CSS designs look the same?" (Comments: But I have to ask, is it so bad when web sites look and feel the same? Not exactly the same, of course, but very similar. It just doesn't bother me. In fact I like it because I don't have to learn new interface conventions, such as navigation. In short, I care more about content than presentation. I care more about entertainment than style. Does this make me evil? Does it mean that I hate creativity or innovation? Of course not. I'm only suggesting that web sites that offer a common experience are easier for me, and for countless other people. If you are going to be on the cutting edge please don't drag me along. I don't want to get cut and I don't want my blood to spill for your cause. If you tell me that I don't have to visit your web site, you're correct. I won't. And I won't point to your site and you'll get less traffic.)
