The Peace Movement of the 1960's -- "The long lasting benefits that resulted from the Peace Movement far outweighed any negative aspects which can be associated with it. The protesters were successful in pressuring the American government to withdraw from Vietnam, banning the draft, voting Lyndon Johnson out of office as well as creating equal rights and opportunities for women and minorities. As well, the protesters demonstrated to the American government that no longer was war an acceptable means to settle disputes and that "the people" could rise in a mass protest against them. Thus, in the ensuing years America has become more active in settling disputes diplomatically rather than militarily as their leaders have realized Americans are no longer as willing to go to war."
