09/05/2001 Archived Entry: "5-September-2001 -- Smokers not only take more time off work but they are less productive"

Smokers not only take more time off work but they are less productive -- "The results showed that current smokers averaged almost three times as much sick leave as non-smokers, as well as significantly more sick leave than ex smokers. Ex-smokers also had lower rates of absenteeism as time passed. Ex smokers were also an average of 5 per cent more productive than current smokers." (Comments: If this went the other way, do you think it would have been published? I think it is always important to think about current social conditions when reviewing published research. By the way, I am not defending smoking. I'm just trying to raise awareness of how research is conducted so that we don't just laugh at this. Beware of groupthink; understand how you fuel your opinions.)
