WebWord Comment -- I have some predictions. I predict that Cameron Barret will change CamWorld within the next month so that people can link to his postings and post their own comments. I say this because I am starting to see a trend that I am part of. As the internet shakes and moans, only the strong will survive. CamWorld is a strong presence and I don't expect it to die. To keep up with the pack, or to pass the pack, CamWorld will add new the functionality. There seems to be more and more of a divide between good weblogs and bad weblogs. The weblog shakeout has begun. We are past the peak. We won't see weblogs consolidate, as we might see in other places, because they are too personal. Instead, we'll start to see more and more sophistication in the tools being used and writing being done. Perhaps Webword is also at the front of the pack, along with Tomalak's Realm, in that weblogs are going commercial. On that note, I'll be putting together some advertising and sponsorship guidelines in the very near future. As I have said before, we will all benefit. What do you think about my predictions and observations?

I usually look at Camworld, Webword, and a few other weblogs including 37signals (signal vs noise) that does use the same system (Greymatter). I can certainly see Camworld and others using this or a similiar system. Advertising and sponsorships are the way to go. They certainly would not bother me if done right. I like Google's ad system (text based).

Advertising and sponsorships are *one* way to go; paying your own freight or, if you are very lucky, doing things for free are others. And as for Camworld: I try to imagine a world in which Cam Barrett and anything he does actually matter, but *I'm not getting any pictures*.

Though I agree with the general assessment that the shakeout has begun and that we see the beginning of commercial weblogs, I do think that there will be some collaboration of weblogs, as you can see in SVN, some good weblogs can be maintained with multiple editors. Why can’t there be some mergers between weblogs?

I think this wacky thing called summer has a lot to do with the weblog slow-down. As for advertising, as long as it doesn't create an Us vs Them mentality then I say milk it.
