ITEM #1
Editorial: 2002 WebWord Survey
I've been running WebWord for nearly four years. It is
hard to believe but I have never conducted a survey to
find out about the people that visit WebWord and read
the newsletters.
If you would take the survey, I would be in your debt. It
is only 15 questions and should take you less than five
minutes to complete. Please take the survey. It really is
painless and the data will be very useful to me.

A new WebWord.com interview is now online:
<URL: http://webword.com/interviews/iff.html >
AmphetaDesk and the Adventures of Morbus Iff
"AmphetaDesk is a syndicated news reader - it can display
the news and content from thousands of websites in a
single, customizable page, saving the end-user the hassle
of visiting each site manually and slogging through
advertisements and confusing navigation. It's a massive
time-saver for the information junkie."
You can read the new interview here:

ITEM #3
A new WebWord.com interview is now online:
<URL: http://webword.com/interviews/hiler.html >
About the Blogosphere
"Overall, I find the usability of most blogging software
(aka blogware) to be extremely high - especially when
compared to traditional content management software. One
concern: blogware is becoming more and more powerful,
with each generation of software packed with more and
more features. That's a bit worrisome to me. One of the
Usability Laws I've noticed on the web is that with Great
Power comes not-so-great Usability."

A new WebWord.com article is now online:
<URL: http://webword.com/moving/mozilla.html >
Pain at Mozilla.org
While Mozilla.org is a good site for open source
advocates, web site developers, and the computer elite,
it is not friendly for most other people. Mozilla.org
will scare aware average users because of usability
problems, mostly because so much technical jargon is
used.

ITEM #5
A new WebWord.com report is now online:
<URL: http://webword.com/reports/researchintranets.html >
Book Review: On-the-Job Research: How Usable Are
Corporate Research Intranets?
"...one of the key questions in the report is related to
figuring out how to build more usable research intranet
web sites. I think the authors discovered the key concept:
The intranet needs to be organized around the needs of
the employees. Give them what they need and they will
succeed. Label things using their language and they will
succeed. It is their web site."

The Usability of the Palm Vx
A new WebWord.com article is now online:
<URL: http://webword.com/moving/palmvx.html >
The Usability of the Palm Vx
"While the Palm Vx has some great, enjoyable benefits,
there are also a few noticeable usability glitches with
it."

Blog Tidbits
I recently posted a link to a discussion over on the
CHI-WEB mailing list. The topic (Flash Critiques: 99% Bad)
generated a lot of buzz on the mailing list and on WebWord
so I thought I would share the link with you:
<URL: http://webword.com/weblog/000307.html >
One of the most interesting things about the discussion on
WebWord is that John Dowdell, a Macromedia support guy,
posted some information. I also found out that he runs a
weblog related to Macromedia MX. He has posted some good
stuff on his site. Take a look if you have a chance:

By the way, I want to thank the people that visit WebWord
and post their comments. There are some folks that really
post a lot of good information. Here is a partial list of
people I want to recognize for their contributions:
MadMan
Jack Schonchin
(the other) JS
Matt Round
Berna Tural
PeterV
Frank (Samuel Johnson)
Alan Fisher

WebWord and Advertising
As many of you know, I am offering advertising space in
both the WebWord Addiction and the WebWord Usability
Newsletter. I have been using an auction system to sell
this space and I am pleased with the results. One flaw
with this system is that I need to tell people that new
auctions are available and it can be annoying to users
when I post this information on WebWord.
To decrease the amount of static caused by these
announcements, I have created a new distribution list
called WebWord Advertisements. The purpose of the WebWord
Advertisements list is to notify you when new advertising
opportunities are available through WebWord. If you
subscribe, you can expect to receive about one email per
week from the list. You can subscribe to the WebWord
Addiction, WebWord Usability Newsletter, and the WebWord
Advertisements newsletter from the subscriptions page.

By the way, if you want to see an auction I am running
right now for advertising space in the WebWord Addiction,
