ITEM #1

Lotus Domino Resources

I'm looking for the best resources available on Lotus
Domino. I'd like basically any information you can
provide: recommended books, articles, web sites,
software, and development tools. The more the better.
Give me everything you've got.

If I get enough information I'll write up a full blown
report. If you send me information I'll will give you
quite a bit of free exposure (either in this newsletter
or in the report). I link liberally and give credit
where credit is due. Here is your chance to show off,
and help others.

Please send me your Lotus Domino information!

ITEM #2

Focus on User Responses

A new Moving WebWord Article is now online:
<http://webword.com/moving/responses.html>

Have you thought about what things you would like
people to do once they reach your site? If you are
focusing only on improving traffic, for example, then
you are probably missing out on capturing responses
that you want. You need to evaluate the things that
users can do once they reach your site, and you need
to set priorities on those possible responses. This
will let you focus your site on those things that you
care about, and it will greatly improve your users'
experience.

Take a look at the newest Moving WebWord article
<http://webword.com/moving/responses.html>

ITEM #3

Online Class: Designing Effective Web Pages

I'll be teaching another online class through Broome
Community College for the Fall 1999 semester. Class
size is limited, so if you are interested, be sure
to sign up today. The easiest and fastest way to sign
up is through the Business and Information Technology
department. Contact Patricia Franks to sign up or ask
questions <mailto:franks_p@sunybroome.edu>

Here's the official quote from the college catalog:

"Experienced web designers will enhance their ability
to create attractive, useful web sites by exploring the
elements of good design. Issues such as audience
identification, clarification of need, development of
content, efficiency in use of files based on type and
size, and an introduction to human factors in improving
design will be explored. A popular commercial web
authoring package will be used to create an attractive
and effective web site as a final project."

My main focus will be on usability, although I will be
covering many other design considerations, as the above
description indicates. If you are looking for a crash
course on effective web design from the viewpoint of
usability, this course will be right for you.

Again, for more information, please contact Patricia
Franks <mailto:franks_p@sunybroome.edu>. Thanks.

Reducing Color Depth

Sean Murphy of PCFuel recently took an image I created
an compressed it without any real loss in integrity.
He took a small image I created for people wanting to
join the WebWord.com Friends Club and pretty much cut
the size of the image in half. If you want to see what
he did, see his tips and tricks page:

<http://pcfuel.com/tips/wwwdesign.htm>

And, if you want to learn more about the WebWord.com
Friends Club, go here <http://webword.com/friends.html>.

More Information Architecture

In the last newsletter I told you about the interview
that I conducted with Information Architect, Louis
Rosenfeld <http://webword.com/interviews/rosenfeld.html>
I found an article that compliments his interview.
It is a good article to round out your understanding of
information architecture.

Again, I recommend Louis Rosenfeld's *excellent* book:
