ITEM #1
Information Architecture Revealed!
A new WebWord.com Expert Interview is now online:
<http://webword.com/interviews/rosenfeld.html>
I have a special treat for you this week. I recently
interviewed Louis Rosenfeld, author of the best-selling
Internet book, "Information Architecture for the World
Wide Web". This was one of the top web books of 1998.
Amazon.com calls this essential reading, and with good
reason. I also highly recommend the book.
But let's not focus on the book alone. Lou is not only
the author of a great book, he tells us how usability
and information architecture are linked. He also
explains how planning your information architecture can
significantly improve your web site.
Take a look at the interview with Louis Rosenfeld:

Web Marketing Research
A new WebWord.com Expert Interview is now online:
<http://webword.com/interviews/lee.html>
I'll bet that you are concerned with generating more
traffic for your web site. And, I'll bet you want to
understand your clients/customers/readers/users better.
I know that I want to always know more about folks, so I
can I do a better job helping them. I interviewed Tim
Lee recently and he does a great job explaining web
marketing research. In fact, his web site WebCMO is
completely dedicated to it. If you want to understand
what makes people buy, and if you want to understand
how to get good marketing data, this is the interview
for you.
Learn what questions every web marketing person should
ask. Read the interview for important details:

ITEM #3
Web Site Accessibility Resource
The HTML Writers Guild sponsors the Accessible Web
Authoring Resources and Education (AWARE) Center,
the primary web designer reference for creating sites
that can be used by anyone regardless of computer
setup or disability. The AWARE Center website is
located at: <http://aware.hwg.org/>
Be sure to read the "Selfish Reasons for Accessible Web
Authoring" <http://aware.hwg.org/why/selfish.html>. I
decided to make a "selfish" addition. You can find it
here <http://aware.hwg.org/why/selfish-more.html>.
These "selfish" reasons for creating accessible web
sites are great; they will get you thinking about more
effective design.
Finally, while you're thinking about disabilities,
why not check out the online magazine for the worldwide
disability community? <http://outlookmagazine.com/>

ITEM #4
Send Me Your Software, Hardware, and Books
I recently started receiving all kinds of books from
folks that want me to do reviews of their work. I would
like to offer you the same opportunity. I am setting up
a small testing laboratory where I will stress test
software and hardware. I will also be writing short
usability reviews of products, which I will post via
this newsletter and/or the WebWord.com site. And, I will
review a limited number of web and usability related
books. If you would like to contribute to this effort,
please contact me at <mailto:john@webword.com>.
Also, if you think that your friends or colleagues would
like to contribute, pass this newsletter along to them.
Thanks for your help.

ITEM #6
Reader Challenge: Font Management
Here's a question that Joyce Cupps Sterling
<http://mariposa.yosemite.net/dynamic> asked me a few
days ago:
"Do you know of any books, sites, etc. that have
listings of all the various names given to the same
fonts (like Roman, Times Roman, Dutch, or Arial,
Univers, Swiss etc.)? I want to eliminate many of
these fonts from my font folder -- but the present
way that Windows handles this is only to show similar
fonts -- some being very un-similar. I'll bet there
are lots of people out there with the same problem
-- I do web design -- I want a variety of interesting
fonts available to me for images -- but my font folder
is clogged up with many programs' fonts -- all
similar!!!! And I haven't found an easy way to print
out each font, say in 18 pt, one after another on a
page so I can easily compare them."
I did not have a good answer, do you?
I have also wondered if there are any good font managers
available. I've done a small amount of looking, but
I have not been successful. Do you have any ideas?

Web Sites and Tidbits
1.
Looking for more hardware and software reviews by Sean
Murphy? He wrote a review of Diamond's MX300 sound card
for WebWord <http://webword.com/reports/murphy001.html>
a couple of weeks ago. Sean recently launched his own
site <http://pcfuel.com>. PCFuel is mostly dedicated to
hardware and software issues, and I really enjoy his
great reviews. When you get a chance, stop by the
PCFuel site and let him know what you think.
Here's the URL <http://pcfuel.com>
2.
Looking for an introduction to Web Promotion? I
recommend Joshua Reimer's Web Promotion Tutorial for
