ITEM #1
A New Moving WebWord Article is now online:
http://webword.com/moving/linking.html
Too many people do not link *strategically*. Effective
linking requires time, effort, and intelligence. The
bottom line is that you should consider the value of
your content in relation to your links.

ITEM #2
A New Moving WebWord Article is now online
http://webword.com/moving/strategist.html
The idea of "Webmaster" is no longer viable. It is
becoming increasingly clear that Internet development
requires teams of skilled individuals. This *short*
article makes a few quick comments about job titles
and the salaries associated with Internet development
work. An ability to envision the future of the Internet
and an understanding of usability are important to your
success.

Online Backups
Here's what Daniel Will-Harris had to say in relation
to the WebWord.com server meltdown:
"One tip about backups--have you tried any on-line,
web-based backup systems? I thought they were an insanely
stupid idea when I first heard about them, but I reviewed
a bunch of them for c|net and found one called connected.com
which is GREAT. I use it daily. It automatically backs up
my changes to _two_ secure servers. It encrypts, compresses
and stores them remotely so that you can always get a
copy--either on-line, or by having them send you a CD
within a day. It's a great service, reasonably priced,
and I highly recommend it!"

BOOK PICK -- "Essential Business Tactics for the Net"
http://amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0471257222/wedwordcom
Here's what author Larry Chase wrote:
"When I decided to write 'Essential Business Tactics
for the Net,' I asked myself how it would differ from
any other Internet book on the market. This book takes
a "whole egg" approach to the Net. The first half talks
about how to use the Internet as a productivity tool so
you can work faster, cheaper, and smarter inside your
company. The second half speaks to using the Internet
as a marketing tool, whereby you communicate more
effectively with those outside your company. You see,
the Internet is really two mints in one:).
This book is packed with practical advice and techniques
that are applicable to just about everybody. However, the
Internet experience is uniquely different for each
individual and each company. That's the way it's supposed
to be. There are techniques and practices that will be
applicable to you and only you. While it's impossible to
address these infinite scenarios, I can give you something
that will help you discern what you should do next.
Perspective. With perspective, you can forge your own path,
based on what you see, what you hear, and your gut instinct. I
find that to be one exciting prospect. I'm sure you do,
too.
In addition to writing you a "how to and why bother" book,
I want you to have something more, something online. When
you buy this book, you receive free access to my Web
Digest For Marketers archives for an entire year. Heretofore,
only clients and attendees to my seminars have had access!
All others pay $25. Look for the password in chapter three
when you get the book. Those archives will help you save
hours of your valuable time and discover gold mines of
information you never knew existed on the Web."
* Looks like a good one, don't you agree?

The Pentium III Nightmare : Goodbye Privacy
You're not going to like this story one bit. It seems that
our favorite chipmaker Intel has decided that the
Pentium III will have an "Electronic ID" that allows
people (e.g., merchants) to track your computer. This
of course means that people can track you, so you lose
your privacy.
Here's the story:
"Intel to electronically ID chips"
http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2189721,00.html
The usability of this sucks of course. This is an anti-
user maneuver. As you would expect, several privacy rights
groups have called this an outrage. The company has faced
serious backlash and plans to offer a "software solution".
